Many late rust free Classic Mini's are also now being re-exported back to the UK (Japan is also RH drive) and are on sale in specialist dealers here.
I don't think Rover ever officially imported MPI's to Japan due to different emission and drive by noise laws, so continued with the SPI + side radiator + A/C. Also the air conditioning compressor and pipe work, etc, (below the much larger Japan spec alternator) left very little space for the MPI's front mounted radiator/fan assembly.
The left hand inner wing has another electric fan and the air con condenser radiator fitted. The air con evaporator is located under the passenger side parcel shelf in a much larger combined heater box assembly.
Very nice pics here of a Retroed Japanese Mini..........note the conversion includes sliding windows and external door hinges!!
