It's about 2ft high and grey (I think it holds about 5kg of CO2 when full)

Sounds like it mght be a pub bottle. I get CO2 from a local bottled gas place that supplies pubs but if you know a friendly landlord you might be able to come to an arrangement with them. I paid a £25 deposit for the bottle and it costs £20 to get it swapped for a new bottle (only had to do that once in 2 years though).

There are 4 on the standard manifold,

Small one for the fuel pressure regulator

Large one for the cam cover breather

Large for the servo

and the small one for the carbon/charcoal can

i should only need the one for the fuel regulator then. why do you need a vacuum feed to the cam cover?

Yes just that one will do. The cam cover breathes into the inlet manifold, standard Mini's do the same into the carb, one reason the bottom of the manifold is usually full of oil

That pipe above the throttle butterfly is used to open the carbon can, however at closed throttle it isn't going to present the same vacuum it would see in its original position on the manifold so the fuel regulator I'm guessing won't behave in exactly the right way. Perhaps someone else can confirm and explain the effects better than me.

Not sure about the other photo, mine only has electrical connections at that point.

the ones in the dark photo i suspect have something to do with water temp as they are right next to the temp sender. i also have a feeling they have something to do with carbon filter

right, the single connector one is for a temp gauge and the one with 2 pins is a temperature sensor talking to the ECU

So have you got two sensors there and the vacuum hose connector too, mine only has the two sensors
