thanks for all the positive comments.
as for price, off the top of my head, write off micra £250ish, subframe material £60, manifolds about £350, wiring £200, driveshafts £60, ive forgot the rest, sold my 1293 engine carbs and lcb for £390 so all in about £530.00.

i may want to come look at your subframe in the future, as i plan to do this conversion unless i find a different engine which ticks the boxes.

Hi Rids,

Just wondering there is a Reed switch (magnetically actuated switch) on the back of the Micra speedo (the two little screws) that provides a speed signal to the ECU. Have you got these connected?

The bit of reading I've done on the ECU speed sensors says that they provide an input allowing the ECU to know when to turn on or off things like a cold start circuit and idle speed control, I just remembered that you were having a bit of trouble with yours when it was cold and I was wondering if this might have been contributing to the issue?

The way I figure either the ECU knows it hasn't got a speed sensor so it may not know when to do idle control stuff so it might abandon it completely giving a bad idle or it might still think it's there and no signal means that it's stopped and activate the idle stuff any time your off throttle...

The bit I found explaining it is here:
http://www.autoshop1...m/forms/h26.pdf (page 11)

Other conversions don't use the Micra speedo at all so presumably the ECU not getting a speed signal isn't a huge deal but if you've got the Micra speedo in there anyway I guess it's worthwhile hooking up right?
Anyone know if that's the only ECU sensor that exists outside of the engine loom?

As i only used the speedo head i discarded all the electrics behind it anyway so it's too late to give it a try. I was probably being a bit fussy because its not really that bad. Its never stopped me driving it. Ive just finished a standard mini 1275 for myself and my son to use and driving that reminds me how refined the micra conversion makes a mini feel.

One of the wires goes to earth according to my wiring diagram the other plugs into the ECU so as long as you could identify the correct contact in the plug it should still be do-able.

I've been meaning to ask was there anything you did to the Micra speedo to get it as accurate as you did? the range of motion for the speedo needle seems similar but the Micra speedo is 200km and the Mini 90 miles or approx 150 km / hr shouldn't that leave the speedo out by about a third? or am I missing something? I want to use 10 inch wheels but I still can't see it making up the difference...

I might see how accurate or inaccurate it is and work things from there, it's a long way down the track anyway. I've learnt a lot reading your build, Thanks

On the early center clocks they where matched to the fd, there's a little number on the face. If your using a center clock its just a case of working out the ratio and finding the closest clock. As for the 2/3 clock type either contact the likes of speedy cables and the can alter the clocks or just drive around with sat nav then make a new clock face.

The accuracy was just luck, its the complete micra head behind the mini centre clock front, if you look carefully you can see the milage numbers are slightly different to mini ones, on another note, i couldn't help fitting these.

Did you notice any difference with the Metro brakes aside from the increase in track?

I think the track increase is around 8 mm a side.
