anyway it says dont send money or a license yet, just fill in who was driving etc and send it back, it does say if we DONT that it will be 6 points and a fine up to 1k though. anyway im obviously going to send it off, but i have never had one like this before, so my question is, what happens next?
last time i got 3 point and a £70 fine i think, but that was when i actually got stopped by the cops, and the time before that ( a good few years back) it was 3 points and £60 i think? but that was from one of those speed camera van things parked on the curb.
any ideas folks? nice xmas present eh!

You'll send the form back, then they'll get in touch with you about your punishment.
And judging by your post and your previous in speeding tickets, it's unlikely to be a driving awareness course!
Oh, and a quick edit.
Sorry to hear about this on christmas day!
My mother got hers dropped through her door on her 50th birthday!

Send it back and wait for your three points.
Simples.

These days it's normal for the police to invite you to a driving awareness course and pay a £60 fine instead of three points against your licence. But I think that's normally only offered on your first offence.
Although saying that, it's not set in stone. My boss has done the awareness course twice!

Not sure on the 30 limit, 38 may be outside it as 30 is a residential speed so it could be very restrictive, I got the course doing 34 in a 30
Send it off and wait for the smack on the bum

Is it always meant to work like that? or does it come down to someones discretion at the end of the day?
Because the second time by boss got offered the course he was doing doing 82MPH on the M3, toeing a 1tonne (or there abouts) boat.
I'd have thought that to be well over any limit to be offered the course, although I suppose the policeman that pulled him could have been having a good day and not booked him for doing as much as 82?
I'm curious now.

Its useful to keep a relative/friend who lives abroad insured for your car.........
Looks like someone has been playing the numbers game?
