this morning i got a letter in the post about a speeding ticket i picked up a week or so back. its a yellow letter and a white one, basically asking who was the driver etc at the time of the offense (38 in a 30 zone?)

anyway it says dont send money or a license yet, just fill in who was driving etc and send it back, it does say if we DONT that it will be 6 points and a fine up to 1k though. anyway im obviously going to send it off, but i have never had one like this before, so my question is, what happens next?

last time i got 3 point and a £70 fine i think, but that was when i actually got stopped by the cops, and the time before that ( a good few years back) it was 3 points and £60 i think? but that was from one of those speed camera van things parked on the curb.

any ideas folks? nice xmas present eh!

That's just them getting clarification that it was you driving the car, and not someone else driving your car.
You'll send the form back, then they'll get in touch with you about your punishment.

And judging by your post and your previous in speeding tickets, it's unlikely to be a driving awareness course!

Oh, and a quick edit.

Sorry to hear about this on christmas day!
My mother got hers dropped through her door on her 50th birthday!

Fill in the form you got today.
Send it back and wait for your three points.

Simples.

Oh sorry. My dodgy wording I guess.
These days it's normal for the police to invite you to a driving awareness course and pay a £60 fine instead of three points against your licence. But I think that's normally only offered on your first offence.

Although saying that, it's not set in stone. My boss has done the awareness course twice!

You'll get the awareness course if you are within a limit of the limit? :xmas:

Not sure on the 30 limit, 38 may be outside it as 30 is a residential speed so it could be very restrictive, I got the course doing 34 in a 30

Send it off and wait for the smack on the bum

Oh really?
Is it always meant to work like that? or does it come down to someones discretion at the end of the day?
Because the second time by boss got offered the course he was doing doing 82MPH on the M3, toeing a 1tonne (or there abouts) boat.
I'd have thought that to be well over any limit to be offered the course, although I suppose the policeman that pulled him could have been having a good day and not booked him for doing as much as 82?

I'm curious now.

You probably won't get the course, it says exceeding the limit but not by much.

Everyone in my 'class' had just crept over the limit they were in, its not about someones discretion its all about numbers

Its useful to keep a relative/friend who lives abroad insured for your car......... :xmas:

Looks like someone has been playing the numbers game? :)

If there isnt a photo supplyed, i would fight it. Keep asking for a photo and ask them to prove it was your car. I was 'caught' doing 37 in a 30. didnt even think i was in the area at the time of offence. kept asking for a photo of it and they said they wernt able to send one. i didnt pay the fine and havent heard anything back since (almost a year ago now) :xmas:

well i was picked up in humberside apparantly, but i live near dudley in the black country! i was doing a 8 hour non stop journey to go and pick up a set of turbo wheels from scarborough! wheels cost £30, plus £45 for diesel, and now probably about £60 for a fine, makes a cheap set of wheels expensive! lol
