My first car was and still is a mini 6 years on, <-- that one over there to be exact. This ******** about a mini as a second car as there not reliable :) that particular mini has been my only daily transport regardless. I’ve never being well off, currently unemployed for a start. But it’s so cheap to keep on the road I’ve never seen much point it replacing it with a modern euro box. Hence why I’ve still got it and take no interest in the Bini or any other modern car for that matter.

Yes I have had the odd brake down and 'road side repair', but only once in 6 years and nearly 20k have I had to be towed home because the clutch failed. Witch isn’t too bad considering its a 26 year old mini.

With regards to the cmment about mini's being 2nd cars and not being reliable.
That isn't the reason I run a second car. My mini has an original 40k miles on the clock. Painteork isn't great, but it will be.
I just don't want to drive it everyday. I cover thousands of miles a year travellng up and down the motorway to see friends and family. I drive to work, the shopsand park in a car park at the gym where generally the spaces are too small and be cars are too damn big 4x4's, big BM's, Audis etc. Some of them drivers really are arrogant ******* and won't be even slightly bothered about banging the door into a 25 year old mini.

6 year back I watched from the window Of the gym as a Porsche cayenne driver put his sportsbag on the roof of my old mini whilst he clambered into his car, then leaned over and grabbed his bag.
By the time I'd got down there, he'd gone and all that was left, was some nice scratches on my roof from the metal bits on the bottom of his bag.

The car I take to the gym now, never gets cleaned, so is so filthy (covered in road saltand grime) people don't want to park next yo it, just in case they brush up against it lol.

Ive been driving my mini for 3 years since i passed my test and its taken me all over the country. i do alot of driving and used to drive a 2 hour journey every weekend plus a 45minute drive 4 times a day and it never gave me any problems!
Yes i have problems where i live. If i park my mini outside my house, people have badly dented the bumpers, but ive learnt now that i just cant park it there because i live next to a row of shops and the stupid drivers cant park.......
Also, the thing with the porsche driver putting his bag on the roof of your mini..... that happens in ANY car, not just a mini. Ive seen people doing that to polos, golfs, fords etc....

There is nothing wrong with having a different, more modern car for a daily, i will in a few years time get something else but for the time being all i can afford is my mini. But minis are amazingly practical and many other drivers dont give them any credit, they just write them off as unreliable rust buckets that brake down or cant go on motorways. Ive seen an older lady who uses a walking stick near where i live (along with pleanty of other older people) still using their minis as a daily driver so if they can, i dont see why people just think of them as braking down all the time!!

This forum is one of the few forums left that is purely for classic minis, and overtime when less and less classics, it will be nice to have somewhere that you can still come and see other peoples minis.
I dont think anyone here is being nasty or saying they dont like the new MINIs but just because they have the mini name, doesnt mean they should automatically get a seperate section.
MINIs have their own forums!! thats the thing i dont get, come on here to talk about classic minis and go on MINI2 to talk about MINIS!!!

Did Kelsey not just continue the MINIWORLD sponsorship program? You make it sound like modern mini are sponsoring L2B etc.

Mini world is continuing the sponsorship as before but as there are keeping both mags separate they are also keeping the sponsorship separate as well.
This means that both mags will now lend there support were needed like L2B which is a massive event and just mini world at smaller events. But I suppose that this is wrong now?

There were of course concerns about major Mini event sponsorship continuing after IPC Media sold Miniworld to Kelsey Publishing, owners of Modern MINI magazine.
This was the positive reply received from the Kelsey Publishing, Editorial Director of both MW & MM:
"It is indeed our plan to continue sponsoring London to Brighton and Castle Combe, along with numerous other Mini events, at which we will be attending with BOTH MiniWorld and Modern MINI."

It was also stated in Modern MINI and Miniworld magazines last month that their were no plans to merge the two magazines and that both will attend a number of Mini based events and shows throughout 2011. Good news for all of us who want to see a healthy, friendly and united Mini/MINI scene in future with everyone working together. :)

I know from personal experience within the London & Surrey Mini Owners Club, Mini Cooper Register and British Mini Club that they ALL actively encourage MINI's to attend their events and see them as an essential part of the future success and financial viability of putting on large top quality shows. The MCR expanded the Beaulieu Mini Cooper Day showground last year especially to accomodate the increasing numbers attending in MINI's without any reduction in the showground area for the classic Mini's, they intend to do the same at this years show which will be celebrating 50 years of the Mini Cooper and 10 years of the MINI Cooper.

Personally I don't care who sponsors what as long as we do not get to the stage where Binis push out the classic mini. LSMOC, whilst accepting the bini, set the L2B up for the clssic mini, and with the limited number of tickets available, every bini means one less mini.

Anyway, we should get back on topic, which is "should MINI have a section on TMF"? This question has been answered. It is not going to happen at this time, so on the original topic there is no more to say.

Thoughts of men in white coats and jackets with no ends to the sleeves come to mind. If they were in a mini club, they should be ashamed of themselves.

It’s when you look at wrong with the cars and think I’ve repaired far worse than that my self. But because you can’t or don’t want to pay the stupid prices at a garage its now scrap.

And then when a classic mini club turn up to a show with a stand full of Binis and 2 classics and some owners don't even use there classic over the Bini for runs because of comfort, reliability etc, its not realy a classic mini club anymore.

Just read through all this drivell, wanted to keep out of it,, but by page 25 i felt i'd got to have my two penneth. I don't hate/dislike BINI's or any other car for that matter, but as i see it its as simple as this.

TMF is intended for the classic mini scene i.e. the austin, morris, rover variety that Mr Alec designedand we all know and love, END OF.

If you want to be part of this scene a pre requisite is ownership of, or an interest in these vehicles. Anything else and i'm afraid your on the wrong forum. There are some pretty fantastic forums for just about any car out there you care to mention (pistonheads caters for lots in one go) and in this world of high tech wizadry nothing is more than a couple of seconds away so lets hear no bleating.

Leave TMF and the classic mini scene to those of us who love tinkering with our unreliable, draughty, damp, impractical, rusty, oily, noisy, troublesome and yet STILL LOVED, ingenious piece of British engineering, "because there'll always be plenty of interest in the little cars"

It's no good buying a Fiesta or a Corsa (or anything else for that matter) and putting a mini badge on it, If you want to be into mini's, buy a mini! (You know what i'm saying)

NOW C'MON ADMIN PULL THE PLUG ON THIS TOPIC.

Who would consider leaving tmf if a new mini section was made?

Just so I can send a list to the mental health association.

Me.

And my reasons (which you would know if you had read this thread... meaning I have to repeat myself meaning my previous comment about why the same things keep coming up is even more apparent)

...Because this would no longer be a relevant forum for me. I want to go to a site dedicated to the classic mini. I dont want to read about something I am not interested in. Logistically I do not believe that a BMW section could successfully be integrated into this forum without it bleeding out all over the place, I use the new posts button all the time, I very much doubt that you could build a system that would mean that the BINI posts dont show up on that. so I would always have to sort through BINI posts to find the new Classic minis posts. And it is VERY obvious that eventually this forum would be mostly BMW Mini meaning the classic mini enthusiasts left have a very diluted site to go to that wouldnt be as beneficial to them as it could have been. In fact, it would more than likely be pretty useless to a classic mini owner. So therefore this would no longer be the sort of site I am interested in, and I would leave.

So whats your point....? I must be mad?

I have read youre comments, and i am not just posting in turn to youre comments, i am posting on everyones views on the ridicolous situation.

If you had read my posts you would see that i am against a bini section too... I dont see the relevance, we have bini forums already.

What im trying to say is its not really important in the grand scheme of the little thing we call life.

Some of the thread may be 'Drivel' depending on your opinion of what constitutes drivel but much of it is also constructive, grown up debate and TMF should be proud that most members whether for, against or neutral can have a civilised discussion over what is a controversial topic.
Why should Admin pull the plug just because some of us have had our say? :( .................surely it is better to leave this topic open for the many old and new members who have not yet posted their thoughts and then admin can use the feedback when making any future decisions or changes to TMF. As with any topic no one has to read any of it if they think it is just drivel.

I think everyone here on TMF should give themselves a damn good pat on the back for keeping a MINI topic going this long, either the forum is getting more sensible or the admin are getting lax and we know its not the admin!

This is a giant leap for TMF

im so proud i might cry

No it's not I had to get rid of mine due to costs that were mounting up having to constantly repairing to keep it on the road, like wise if they have decided to get rid and have a MINI then that's up to them and neither you or I should judge other people on what they want to do!
I'm wondering if it's hear say that this has happened or is it true and what club is it?

Unfortunately it did and I’m not willing to disclose witch mini club it was, as at some point I might end up bumping into them at a future show, run etc.
