I'm restoring a 1973 MK3 Mini saloon. I have done some work around the windscreen & just want to confirm the hole/aperture that the front windscreen fits into hasn't changed. If anyone has the screen out on their mini, (I believe they are all pretty much the same) I'm after the vertical dimension in the middle of the hole. Thanks.

mk3 onwards are the same size, may be even mk2 are the same, however mk1 are definately smaller.

I am 99% sure the dimension you want is 41.4 cm and that applies right across the screen width until it gets to the radii at the screen ends. That was on an MPI shell which I recently fitted a new scuttle panel to.
I have always believed that all Mini screens were the same size at the front and that only the rear was smaller on the Mk.1, but I could be wrong. I do know that when I fitted a heated gold-filament laminated screen to my Mk1 it was the same as a friend fittted to his 1994 rally Mini as they came from the same batch.

to the best of my knowledge all front screen apertures are the same size, the early mk1s had no sunken lip and mk1s have the wiper holes in a different place and twin point engines have a thicker screen but all the same sizes for screen.

Yes, I suspect +/- 1 mm is within tolerance for the screen rubber.
I guess you are fitting a new scuttle rail. I's strange how a '60's Mini will have no scuttle panel rust, but a 1998 one will be completely corroded away.

Their not made to aircraft tolerances, lol. When i changed my scuttle i measured the aperture it was 418 in the middle and between the middle and end was 413 and 415. typical rover. 1989 mini thirty.

the edges are quite rough where the joins are

no wonder they leak

some of the new screen seals are from straight rubber , extruded without corners so the inside is too big

any ideas how to get the bunching out at the corners ?
