Can any Minus owners help me!

Im wanting to fit my front subframe but the front mounts on the front panel appear to be quite weak. They will not take the weight of shell/subframe.

I was wondering if i am meant to have some sort of brace bar from the bulkhead cross member to the front. Like what is used on a flip front?

I don't get what you are meaning? The thing that takes the weight of the engine and subframe are the tower bolts.

The front two bolt attachments on the subframe do not do all that much apart from add a little more rigidity to the front end not that they really need it :)

They do a bit more than that though. hence having brace bars with a flip front?

They really do seem very very weak. I could build them up a bit with fibreglass but i don't think it would do much. Will definately need some sort of brace!

Think i will get the guy thats going to make my cage to do it, a bar from the front of the subframe up to the cross member.

Other than that i am going to have to do some adjustments to the mounts on the towers, they don't seem to line up very well. I think that is why a previous owner has cut them up a bit.

You have brace bars for a flip front because it putting a lot of leverage weight on one part of the car, because our fronts don't flip everything is secured. The front bolt holes really are just add a little more rigidity. Also they can be used for towing eyes to be placed on the frame. I have had my engine in and out supported by just the tower bolts with no difference. I have also with my brothers had his old frame in his old minus with a big 2.0L vauxhall lump in with just the tower bolts to hold in place. They are weak because they don't do much.

The reason for using brace bars for a removable front is because you remove the inner wings. Inner wings provide a lot of structural integrity.

Been working on this a bit recently. Nearly have the passenger door all fitted. Bought the doors from ARC angels and although they looked lovely i have had to modify them a considerable amount to get them to fit! Wouldnt even fit the hole at first.

I've also sent of a template and will be getting windows made shortly. They will all be bolted except the front screen.

This arrived to......

What did you have to do to the doors to get them to fit?

Material off the bottom, rear corner, inner rear corner, the front edge at the top of the a panel, rear edge by door handle and the front inner corner.

Also had to move the hinge holes towards the car to get the right alignment.

Basically buy a powerfile and keep at it till it fits. As with these cars nothing is simple.

Also don't expect decent gaps/shape.

Not a clue.

I bought it because it was any easy way of getting a lower steady mount as the minus doesn't have one.

I know what you mean about the front mounts.... mine were weak too, one was even split.... to get round it I bonded in some steel platesthat went all the way round, if you get me, front panel round to the mounts and joined back to the bottom of the front panel, i used loads of matting and resin, turned out pretty strong....

Thanks for that ted, may have to try that. Would be lighter than my brace idea.

I hope so blue. I wonder who will finish first. I have so much to do haha. Just received a box of seals so I can properly test fit a few bits.
