I think the painter would have some serious explaining to do! Know how gutted you must feel after all that effort :/

I'll pop over if you need any help luke

It's hard to tell from the pics, some of it looks like rust from the seams but most of it looks like poor coverage from the respray. I also would be having a word with the bodyshop.

The issue with that is that it is everywhere and you have no idea where else it could pop up. For me to feel sane and safe in the knowledge that my mini was rust free I would strip it back down, either media blast or acid dip the shell and get it re-painted (at the sprayers expense, bar your labour time) it will go back together really quick because you already done it once! I know it will be hard to hear but that's really the only sure-fire way of ridding the shell of all rust! :/ gutted for you pal!

Thank you guys, I know there isn't a quick easy fix! :(

I'll send these photos across to the painter so he can see the extent of the problem.

Yeah it would only take me a weekend to strip her back down to a bare shell & another two to rebuild her, like you say I've already put it all together so reassembling things won't take long.

What can I do in the mean time to stop the rust spreading and keep what's there at bay?

Classic bikes would be a good plan, we have a garage full of various 40/50's bike's and it never fails to keep us occupied. Also parts are only going up in price so your money will not be wasted and as for rust, there's not much tinware on them so that shouldn't be a problem.

To stop further rust I would rub it Where it is rusting down with 80 grit or 120, until rust is gone or you are back to bare metal, and then slap etch primer on there. What sort of primers are you using?

I'm going to see if Dad will let me reshuffle the garage so I can make space to work on his BSA, I need something to keep my hands busy with!

I bought some wire brushes & some Rustbuster FE-123, I may use that and primer over the top? I use U-POL Acid 8 Etch.

Sounds good! But it's going to be real hard to get into the un-gettable places, as even if you miss a tiny bit of rust, that will start it up again:/

As i said, dipping is the onlyway to get rid of rust 100%. Sandblasting is the next best thing. And that still is 1000000 times better than scrubbing away ith a wire brush. Do you know anyone with a portable blaster?

Well for now I just want to do something to prevent the rust that has come through from spreading further.

If I was to do a proper job I'd look in to something serious like dipping or blasting.

Bloody hell luke that is bad. The bulkhead and scuttle is a pain. I think no matter what you do at the moment will prevent the rust from bleeding through. I think at the moment what you are going to do will keep things at bay for a while but the dipping thing or blasting will be the way forward.

I went ott with all of the joints on Erm sealing them to prevent moisture ingress and bleed through. Did you stone chip the inner wings before paint and are they the original inners??

Unless you are really specific about areas ie in the window frames these are not on show so will not get the same paint finish as the outside of the frames.

The bleed through you have got around the head light sections on the wings is really difficult to sort out. The only ways to sort that out is either to replace the wings or drill out the spot welds that hold the ring in place then remove / treat the rust.

Localised spot blasting will remove most of the rust but its still messy.

Agreed. Such a shame but defiantly the sprayers fault. Does he have any experience in car restoration or spraying bare shells? Looks like he made an awful mistake
