I've got a hunch that getting in to classic motorbikes will be a lot more enjoyable.. they will be easier, cheaper & quicker to restore.. won't suffer the same rust issues that a mini or any other classic car does..

I'd like to restore the BSA Bantam in the garage so I can ride out with my Dad on his Norton.. sort some helmet microphones out or something.

I don't know.

Obviously this is all very disheartening & demoralising, I've come so far.

Don't sell it! You have an awesome car and the work/craftmanship involved is truly amazing! You've came this far, don't give up now.

It's this rust issue that's killed me.. I can't afford to put it straight and despite earning a salary now I'm struggling to see every month through & still have a fair amount to put to one side.

I just feel like selling it and paying off debts.

Even if I could afford to finish it I'd have to maintain it, insure it and run it whilst running my daily..

I'd sell it as it is, an unfinished project.

OK, well firstly you shouldn't sell as too much work has gone into it along with not only the money you've put into it but also your parents/family/friends in the way of presents so for that reason you should crack on and keep it, even if it's just keeping it in the garage for a year until you can come back to it, it's in a nice warm(ish) garage now!

But if you do insist it's well worth the time and effort this time around to sell off the parts as it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that a lot of money has been spent on parts and the vast majority of that won't count for squat when it comes to selling an unfinished project unfortunately.

Your looking at it with a level head and for that I've got to give you credit, I do that with everything apart from when it comes to the mini that is haha. Be a shame for you to go but if your decided, your decided.

Going back to price you'd get I'm not the best person at pricing but I would think in the region of £1250 shell only (subject to extent of rust) and £1750 including engine only. Sad reading I know but the shell has a problem and it's an unfinished project at the end of the day. Now take that as a hint to get the project finished!

Cheers
Chris

Yeah it's not an easy decision..

The rust isn't as bad as I've made out, I think it's largely down to me being a perfectionist.

I'd sell the parts off separately as you say to minimize money lost.

I just don't enjoy working on her anymore, I think it's taken far too long (due to University and being away from home) & drained my finances.. every summer I worked the proceeds just went straight on to this project.. It doesn't make me happy! & the thought of spending more money on her (which I don't have) doesn't help.

I still want to be in the garage and getting my hands dirty, don't get me wrong! I love being in there with a cuppa & the radio on working away, but not when it's something that my heart isn't in & I'm just chucking wads of cash at.

I need to be saving up & looking to move out & paying off debts. I can try again at something on this scale when I'm older and hopefully financially comfortable.

I also don't want to feel like I've quit & given up, but I guess certain things are unavoidable.

I could sell the shell and buy a classic motorbike straight away..

I also apologise for spilling my heart on here, I don't think anyone I talk to understands the sheer scale of a project like this & it's oh so easy for them to say 'keep it, you can't sell it!' without knowing the depth of the heartache & emotion that I feel about her.

I definitely think the most sensible thing to do is to lay it up until next summer when I'll hopefully have more money & the days are longer & warmer. It'll be nice to go to shows & get back in to the swing of things.

I do still however need & want something to work on in the meantime.

I agree with others, I have worked on pretty major projects that were pretty daunting at times. It makes it much easier when you can take some time off of it and get your friends to come over and help out, having the friends over helps make it enjoyable again.

Yeah you're right. I can't sell it after I've come this far & I'm so close to the end.. I'll feel much happier doing it when I'm a bit more financially comfortable, the weather is warmer, days are longer & I can get some friends over (James ;-) )

Still, I'll get some photos of this rust and you can give me some pointers on that.

Good shout, that man.

Put a cover on it, stick it in the corner on the workshop, and get back to real life for a while. Once your debts have shrunk a bit, and the rest of life is a bit less stressed (what with you finishing uni and wanting your own place), think about whipping the cover off.

Since most of us mini owners are students, most of us have been at where you are now. Don't flog it, because you're gonna end up angry at how little unfinished projects go for.
