Mine had the seal sitting on top of the tunnel like yours, but with the small plate clamped on top of that to hold it down rather than underneath like you have done it.

It's looking great though, keep the updates coming.

Stunning as usual, great attention to detail. Love the colour!

Thank you mate!

So you are saying the rubber is in the correct position, but the metal plate should sit on top, sandwiching the cable in-between?

That's the way I did mine Luke. Just doesn't look quite right with just the rubber seal on top.

Cheers
Chris

Yeah I've sorted it now, looks better & makes a lot more sense!

Fantastic, I love it

Ta!

Yeah I swapped it round this morning!

Right, got a morning and a few hours of the Afternoon in but I've got a family meal this afternoon so have had to cut the day short, but, got some more jobs done!

Posted Image

Sorted? I think so.

Posted Image

I've been given / asked for the wrong size reducer, so I need to ring Maniflow up and sort that.

Posted Image

Reducing some of the clutter in the garage by giving it a clean, refurbishing it if necessary and getting it ready to go on the shell.

Posted Image

I think I may need a new pedal box, might have one off the '90 that I can use.

Posted Image

Clean and ready to wire brush down. I am going to keep the pedals bare and use some grip tape.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Ku-rusted and left to dry.

Then I had a huuuge tidy up of the garage, that's it for today!

Will be out there tomorrow morning!

That handbrake fairlead looks spot on now. I had a look at one at work today and that is the same as you have it now, so looking good. I had the same problem with the bolts on my pedal box. I centre punched the back of the heads and drilled them through to remove whats left of the old threaded part. Then used a flat chisel to break away the old heads (they're only spot welded at three points). Fitted 4 new hex head bolts and welded along two of the flats on each and job done, saved a good pedal box.

Yeah it makes an awful lot more sense this way.. the Moss diagram definitely has the metal plate underneath and upside down though.. odd.

I'll try and salvage this pedal box then, if I can't find the other.

Haha all credit due, yeah I think it will. It should feel a lot nicer under my feet as well, I've always fancied some Sparco racing shoes.. they'd be kept in my footwell so they'd keep the pedals nice and clean.. I'd have a shoebag in the boot for my normal shoes.. too much?!

Pfft won't even see them ;-)

This is a side note, but I'll be after a cheap car for this summer.. It needs to be something cool & retro, running & have it's MOT..

Got another few hours in there this morning, woo!

And I found out this morning also that I'll be back working for BE Event Hire as soon as I'm finished with Uni, so aside from paying off the debts I've accumulated.. I'll have some money to throw at this thing and get it finished off.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Lick of paint on these items, will give them another, the other side of the petrol tanks now needs flipping, treating & painting.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Boots on! Really happy with how it's looking at the rear end.. tempted for either a Vinyl B&W numberplate.. or raised letters.

Posted Image

Fully secure and tightened, these were just in without washers whilst I was getting the whole thing in and lined up, so I've gone round today and added washers were there weren't and made sure it's all tightened up.

Posted Image

Again, washers added and tightened correctly.

Posted Image

(The doors ajar, that's why the gap looks big!)

Now I know the front subframe is fully in and secure, I can begin stripping apart and rebuilding the front suspension and running gear..

And that's where I left it for today! Off for another family meal.

I've got one more full day at home so tomorrow will be a big last push.

I have commented a couple of times on this project but im doing it again, progress looks excellent and i too get a bit too excited about updates, love the colour and love your attention to detail.

The retro colour and the 10's really suit the car.

Cheers you two!

Flipped the tank over and coated the other side in Ku-rust.

Posted Image

Set about removing the running gear.

Posted Image

Removed, these were very rushed because I just wanted to get the whole thing rolling. I need to sort the shims and balljoints etc..

Posted Image

Affected the areas treated.

Posted Image

Same here.. I just went a bit mad.. figured it'll do more good than bad!

Posted Image

Dug out some parts to sort out. Found the pedal box from the '79, with the studs intact, yey!

Posted Image

I was going to re-tap the housing to fit my reverse switch, but instead I'll wire up a toggle switch and do it manually.

Posted Image

Gave the housing a clean.

Posted Image

& cleaned the inside, then re-packed with grease.

Posted Image

Cleaned the screw heads.

Posted Image

All in and tightened up.

Posted Image

Lovely & clean.

Posted Image

In position.

Posted Image

I painted this up before but I no longer think the green will suit, so I've masked it up ready to spray black.

Posted Image

Painted the tank us as the Ku-rust had dried.

Posted Image

Worked on splitting everything apart.

Posted Image

Done! Ku-rusted any bits as well after I took this photo.

And that's it for today! I'm back to Uni tomorrow to have an absolutely chaotic few weeks before Deadlines.. 6,500 words left to write of my Dissertation..

I'll hopefully come home for a weekend after my hand ins, so I aim to get the running gear / suspension back in and the engine dropped in.. hopefully!

I get way too excited for your updates. Couple'a questions: How much knowledge did you have when you started? (have you gained any since?) and how are you affording this on a student budget? I'm off to university next year, and would love to tart up my Mini over the 4 years I'm there, but can't see how to gather the finances! Love the colour, beautiful car and great thread :)
