The problem with you luke is that you and your spangly camera make it look really easy ;)

Much approval as ever!

Proper productive day today! almost a 12 hour shift in the garage!

Things are in full swing now :D

Posted Image

Started with this pile that needs fixing/refurbing/replacing etc..

Posted Image

Striker plates first.. before & after

Posted Image

Grotty bluetacky stuff.. got rid!

Posted Image

Cleaned up! I need to buy another screw and I was going to replace the rubbers as they are starting to perish but can't find any online and Moss said they are no longer sold.. so I'll use them for now until I come across some more.

Posted Image

N/S door lock mechanism.

Posted Image

& cleaned. I'm after a O/S door lock mechanism, so if anyone has one for sale, contact me :)

Posted Image

Will be reusing these as I am switching from the FG bonnet back to a metal one.

Posted Image

And the door stays have cracked and split for some reason :( so again, if anyone has a pair lying around, contact me :)

Posted Image

Also remembered I had the seat brackets blasted and powdercoated from the '90, so I can use those! (the other set are for sale if anyone wants them)

Posted Image

So I wire brushed the parts and got them hanging on my oh-so-ever-technical-and-complicated cleaning tub & gave them a good coating of Ku-Rust.

Posted Image

Etched.

Posted Image

Next big jobby was the rear subframe again.. started by replacing my rubber bushes with the poly ones I'd bought.

Posted Image

I recruited Dad and we both managed to get it in and secured, not an easy job!

Posted Image

Thinking about buying the MK1 shrouds to hide this lot..

Great work as ever, your bits always look ace after you've cleaned them up. Is it just from wire brushing?

My rear subby is off too at the moment, and I need to order the bushes. I was going to get standard ones, so just wondered what made you go for poly?

Cheers mate!

For the plastic bits & things like the striker plates I just used WD40 and a rag, as for the metal parts yeah I use a wire brush on a drill.

Well they aren't expensive and I figured I might as well upgrade now, should stiffen things up and last longer, plus they look fancy as well ;)

Cheers Louis!

My order from Mini Sport should arrive tomorrow, or maybe Wednesday.. but next jobs are to repaint those bits with black hammerite and get the front subby made up and in. I also need to run the handbrake cable and get that in and working. Erm.. sort bits out for the doors and get those hung and fitting comfortably.. source a bonnet and fit that..

Got a lot of small nuts, bolts & washers to order from Moss as well.. I'll sit down tomorrow night and do that.

Tonight..

Posted Image

Lick of paint, will need touching up and rubbing down as there are some runs.

Posted Image

Decided to tidy this lot as I know there are some parts that have gone missing..

Posted Image

Found these numberplates in doing so, sob sob sob! :( for anyone who is familiar these plates are off my '90!

Posted Image

& what I was really after.. first I need to shuffle the wooden workhorse back underneath the rear subframe so I can seam seal and underseal the belly, then drop the rear end down and fit the handbrake cable and then move onto seam sealing and undersealing the front.

Should hopefully be hearing from George tonight (painter) and I'll also place an order with Moss, which will be a headache when it arrives! lots of nuts, bolts, washers etc..

A lot of care to detail here - you are patient. What a nice job.

Cheers guys, really motivational hearing these kind words.

Matt, I bought it a year or two ago but I would've more than likely got it from Mini Spares -

Just got back from work so will pop in to the garage for an hour or two tonight :) & have settled on a price with George! so hopefully if I work through my to do list then it will be ready for paint at the end of next week!

Also got a bonnet, set of door hinges & a door lock mechanism on the way from CLASSIC-MINI-BITS, they've been brilliant so far and are promising next day delivery, so hopefully that goes to plan!

Few little jobs..

As George will be stonechipping the front valance, rear valance & sills and then spraying them bodycolour it meant I only have to underseal the belly, I think he might be doing some parts of the arches as well..

Posted Image

Shuffling the wooden workhorse back.

Posted Image

& now the underside is exposed.

Posted Image

Bad photo! but as you can see I've left the sills exposed for George to seal and stonechip, but it means the tunnel is done now so I can run the handbrake cable and get that in and working.

Cheers again! :D

Well the end of summer has suddenly appeared! It's flown by!

To do list -

Front end -
Source bonnet, buy & fit
Fit grille
Fit arch liners

Front subframe -
Build up & fit

Boot -
Fit boot retaining cable
Think about numberplate

Doors -
Source hinges, buy & fit
Source O/S door lock mechanism & fit
Hang and sort gaps

Interior -
Fit handbrake
Fit dashboard
Re-visit switch panel
Spot of weld in the N/S foot well

Exterior -
Source, buy & fit seam strips
Fit arches

Easy! :P & buy fit I mean drill holes for whatever part and then remove said part.

Looking great Luke. So jealous, yours is so much smoother than mine :(.

One thing though, are you going to trim down the lip on the rear valance before it goes for paint? At the moment the lip looks huge!
