Not 100% sure yet Ed, I like the look of brushed aluminium and if it's anodised then it won't corrode.

Day off work today, so let the progress commence :mrcool:

Well my day off work was fairly on and off!

Posted Image

More lovely red oxide! I think I've used over 25 cans of the stuff.. which produced plenty of red dust everywhere!

Posted Image

Looking up the N/S arch.. the last bit of patching to be done!

Posted Image

& the view from the cabin.

Posted Image

Gave the back of the air vent patch a lick of weld.

Posted Image

& ran out of gas! typical! will pick up another bottle which will see me through until the end.

Posted Image

So I didn't let the lack of gas stop me from making progress. I didn't trust this area.. plus it looked hella ugly!

Posted Image

So I started to attack it!

Posted Image

Posted Image

And attacked more, making a horrible mess in my clean shell :(

Posted Image

Using some GT85 I degreased and cleaned the whole area up.

Yummy!

Posted Image

O/S foot well is good.

Posted Image

N/S needs some small blobs of weld, one or two tiny pinholes.

(P.s. I don't know how that hoover survives!)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

So after a degrease, a hoover, a dusting of etch primer and a coating of red oxide later.. lovely!

Just need to attend to the blobs of weld needed in the N/S foot well, but will have to do that when I get some more gas.

Another job that needs doing! Because I've taken the dash rails out and I've got a switch panel from a van (I'm led to believe) it will need some modifications to fit.

Posted Image

Ignition in the middle, so cool :mrcool: as you can see the screw holes are now unused and there is a slight gap underneath.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I was then thinking about how to go about securing it in place and settled for a straight forward option of welding in two small support bars and using black self tappers. I don't mind the visible screws as I'm going for the whole rally look anyway :) and I'm undecided wether to have the switch panel painted body colour of leave it with this original paint and patina.

Posted Image

Pulled out the front subframe as well and gave it a dusting off. The shell will be rolling when it goes for paint, so this is something else I need to address and get ready.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Fairly sure I've got more parts hidden away in boxes and cupboards.

Spent an hour today ringing round a few bodyshops as well, so that's getting somewhere now :D

Ah that is a nice idea! I think I'll stick with my idea though :)

Didn't make much progress today.. I guess in some aspects I did, but didn't get into the garage until 2 o'clock, so it didn't feel like I did.

Posted Image

Because Dads gotten some of his Norton parts back he'll be needing a clean and empty workbench, so the engine was moved onto the floor and the cloth replaced with a nice new one, lovely! I should be at the clean stage of my project soon as well.. so it's nice to get all the dirt and grot out of the garage.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

& my engine got a rather fetching floral blanket. I'll revisit the engine when the shell is away for paint.. am awfully tempted to replace the cam with something a bit more racier..

Posted Image

And then carried on with this sodding thing.. It's been a right nightmare as for some reason the welds just wouldn't stick..

Posted Image

Got it done in the end and then filler so it'll be all smooth when painted. (Sorry, blurred photo)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Because I've got a harness bar it means the rear seats will be left bare, so in order to have a nice clean & smooth finish I opted for digging out all the underseal and fillering off some of the repairs I'd done to the underside that had come through.

Posted Image

Dug out, cleaned up and fillered.

Posted Image

Annnd put two blobs of weld in these two tiny holes, you can just about make out the teeniest tiniest one.

Posted Image

Just thought this was a good angle when I was stood up through my windscreen..

Posted Image

Starting to sand down and smooth out the filler.

Posted Image

And again.. need a night of this to make sure it's all acceptable and smooooth.

MITP tomorrow :mrcool:

Ta mate!

They aren't, they came in a plain white box! I've seen them in a few different places called different things at different prices!

Here they are at Moss -

http://www.moss-euro...ateIndexID=5871

(but not in the finish I have)

& at Huddersfield -

http://www.minispare...=38&prod_id=518

(See, cheaper!)

I got mine for about £20 for the pair!

I've got a Verto clutch, easy way to tell is how long the arm is. Verto on the left, Pre-Verto on the right.

But remember my engine is the 998cc out of my previous 1990, not the 850cc out of the current 1979. I don't know if the '79 850cc had a different clutch set up.
