MJWarren, im making the whole collumn myself out of some 20mm bar (will be mill down thinner on sections) but i took the original steering column to the machinist that turned down the end for me and he said it could easily be done to a standard collumn.

i had the end of my bar turned down to fit inside the slug for the quick release boss, that way i know that its central and straight.

yeah im so happy with how it turned out! looks really race-styled aswell which is almost what im going for with the car. feel a lot more sturdy then the original set up.
and thank you :D its pretty fun so far, even though im being paid practically nothing

on another note, does anybody know if i can get a shorter handbrake cable? say 8 inches shorter? reason being that because i now sit so far back the handbrake is where i want the gear lever and the handbrake is way too far forward

yeah there M20, the thread is the same sixe as a modern CV joint. they arent going to break anytime soon that for sure. ill have to look for my old handbrake cable and check it out, i had an idea of using a twin cable handbrake from a Vw polo but ill have to check it out.

Amazing fabrication work on your project.

Adam

i also welded a cap onto the top of my turrets and managed to cut out the hole for it in the drivers rear arch, so i will fit those tomorrow along with the new heelboard.

more progress today, sort of.

i finished off welding in the rear qurter repair but didnt take any photos because it doesnt look any different really.

ive cut out the boot bloor and rear heelboard in preperation for next weekdends work putting in the new heelboard and new boot floor. ive also cut out one arch for the new turret but im going to cut out the other side first before i put the turrets in so that i can ensure they are level

heres a few photos :D

its going to be similiar to yoru promotive build that you have going on *alan curruthers?* but ill be keeping the rear seat. im just going to be using 1mm steel instead of the 1.5 i used before. it weighed a TONNE when i cut it out

quick update,

my rear heelboard is in! and its all lovely and straight and aligned after a few hours of measuring and comparing to BL drawings. sadly no photos as i was concentrating far too much. ive also got both the closing panels in that meet the lower curve of the quarter panel.

big progress on the turret front, there both in! just need to be welded in at the top and they are finished.
