Haha sorry matey but even my Mrs just looked at that and said it looked dangerous! It's very likely to buckle and slip, even if you were working next to it you could get crushed or at the least it could damage the floor. Sorry to go on and I'm sure you get the idea by now, but it had to be said.

Well it was abit silly :S Ive got proper axle stands now, it was only the one time when i dropped the mini off the stands, realised id forgotten the primer and seam sealer, went to look for the stands only to find there were none! So i improvised ;)

Back to topic can someone just clarify, there's a difference between oversills and wide outer sills, and there's nothing really wrong with using wide outer sills if the old sills have been removed!!!?????!!!!!!

Are there any actual benefits of these?

Sorry, did go abit off topic! Oversills have no open vents, theyre just closed bulges, whereas wider sills retain the open vents as seen in the "wobbly blocks" picture ;) I would use original sills if you have the choice, as they join in the correct places on the floor, whereas oversills join further down the floor, and some say, ruin the handling of the car by decreasing the stiffness of the body.

May chuck my wide outer sills back on ebay and buy some proper ones then!

I didn't do enough research before I bought

If you have the chance to fit proper ones, then fit proper ones. Over sills are not good, only any use to bodge through an MOT. You can use them in the same way as normal sills if you cut them so the bulges are open, but it doesn't look quite right. I managed to get some over sills for £9, so I chopped them downwards and welded them the same as you would proper narrow ones

I've got wide outer sill, not oversills

Think i'll buy narrow ones, in case I ever sell it and people think i'm hiding rot

Both of mine have oversills fitted, BUT I’ve chopped them straight down the middle to make a normal width sill out of them. The left overs can them be used for other repair patches and stuff, plus with them originally being over sills the vents are slightly larger, so are easier to rust proof the insides.
