I am having to remove my master cylinders to paint the bulkhead and wondered if anynoe knew to size of R Clip I should us to replce the split pin - as the damn things keep spinning round making it impossible to remove.
Just want to save time and my sanity when upside down in the footwells!!

This could work, but you'll need to check if the size is correct, you must be able to buy just the pin and clip somewhere

A much simpler modification, once you have taken the existing pins out, is when replacing them with new ones, Just open them up a bit rather than wrapping them round the clevis pin. This way they will not fall out, but can be easily removed by pulling them with the needle nose pliers.
to be honest I wouldn't feel safe doing that

I thought R Clips were a common mod?

When I took my car apart one of the pedals had an 'R' clip and the other a split pin...
It was such a struggle getting the split pin out that I'd decided to replace both with 'R' clips when I re-assembled... I really don't see how an 'R' clip could come out if it was the right size...

You can buy spring steel r clips so if you can find some, they may be better, just dont use the ones you see in most shops, they are just made from mild steel.
I know a guy that uses a couple of nappy pins ( small ones ) and he has never had a problem, but are fiddly to get off again.

i 've got R clips on my clutch and brake pedals too, pretty much everywhere really.. on my servo, on my clutch arm and even on my seats!

I have done pretty much the same to be honest, but all mine are spring steel. its easy to check, just see if they go back to shape when you try opening them up. if not, dont use them.
Remember that soft ones may distort when trying to fit them in such a tight working space too.

I'll second this, i also know someone who had one come out of his brake clevis pin too, I don't risk it personally, i use a normal split pin on the brake, and the 'r' type clip on the clutch for ease. Just don't bend the split pin excessively far, as mentioned earlier.Be wary of this modification, My son had one come out and made the brake pedal a bit scary!
and dont buy cheap ones, they definitely dont stay in.
