Front Subframe Tower Bolts

HI guys,

Going to be taking out the front subframe on my 97 MPI just need to know the correct bolt head size of the tower bolts :D
Any ideas?

1" 5/16


or 34mm

NO!

1 & 5/16". While the hub nuts are available as both metric and imperial the tower bolts are not. Neither is the larger steering wheel nut. A 34mm socket will fit over these and may turn many but it is not the right size and will cause damage. If you are going to work on the car, get the correct tools.

Yeah but the thing is can you buy 1 5/16" from a shop?
I used 34mm on the front subframe bolts and theres nothing wrong with them

This attitude really winds me up.
Im not sure why, because im not a mechanic, or an engineer or anything like that.
But to me, it's like people saying they're going to use a spoon to eat cheese on toast...
It's just not the done thing, and with reason.

Continue to use the 34mm Nut, Round of all the corners until it really ballses up, and you've got a fastener that's not fun for anyone
Sell the car to some one with good workshop etiquette who has a nightmare because some person has been using the wrong tool, as per the advise of someone who is wrong.

Sorry for that rant. But im just not buying into that response at all.

Yes! I saw one in my local Halfords the other day.


Well I couldnt find it in mine , and was told that 34mm was the same by people on here , so I bought it.
