Have to agree Hugh, if you have some pin holes then just blob some weld in and grind down. Pain in the a*&e I know but worth it to avoid future problems. A quick fix, nothing to a man of your candleabre now !!!

Thanks Graham. I'll see what enthusiasm I can work up. I just find it so difficult to get at. Even the grinding is a nightmare.

Just ran in a couple of wee outstanding welds from when I put in the rear quarter. They were too tricky for me to get at when the Mini was on its roof.

And at the doorpost - this still needs corrected at the corner

That's all for today. My garage lights are not working properly and the light is poor now. Well that's my excuse.

next time, leave the origional doorpost (B-post and C-post) bit on and cut squared end bit's out the new quarter panel, that way you do not get messy with welding the window corner bits, that is unless it is not rotten of course.

Needless to say it is a good job you have done there but it will save time and strenght in panel.

Hi minimuk - thanks, but this was my B-post. I should have left more at the rear post but once I get going with a grinder! I'm just not careful, I know that, and I don't look ahead.

Sorry friends - there will not be another!! I'm really brassed off of the whole bodywork. I knocked over my cylinder of gas and damaged the valve. I've just had it replaced. Pretty sickening when I'm getting near the end. I've done a couple of extremely poor repairs and my welding seems to have gone backwards.

I did the corner at the rear window. I welded in a patch, ground back, ground too thin, built up with weld, ground back. So bad I never took photos. You would not want to see the back of this!

Posted Image

Then did another gutter repair to the other side. Here's the damage

Posted Image

Posted Image

Tried it in two bits this time - this is the lip on the roof

Posted Image

Posted Image

And the replacement for the gutter

Posted Image

Posted Image

And some dire welding. I didn't have the job at a comfortable position and that just ruins it. You have to feel relaxed to do a decent weld

Not at all happy but better than what it was.

Hugh you are much too hard on yourself !

As long as the welds are strong with good penetration, which yours are from the pics, then once ground down it doesn't matter if they were a bit ugly to start with. You are doing some awkward little repairs and the end result is fine so no more 'derpessing along', do you hear !!!

A fresh pair of eyes next time you are in and you will sort out any little bumps etc. I also need some fresh eyes tomorrow, and a fix it cap !!

think of it this way, every little repair is a step to it beig your perfect car! your not as far away as you think.

maybe take a break from the shell and build up the subframes or something? thats what im doing at the minute

You're doing great Hugh, and you are doing it, not some nameless person at a repair facility, the car isn't being weighed in, You are repairing it! And doing a fine job at it :)

Things happen, I find if I get a bit down I back away and do other things for a while while my enthusiasm levels build back up. No matter what happens, it's just steel and you can put it right with enough time.

and benjy is right, Find something else to do.

I get really bored, really quickly and work on odd little things. I also like to paint small things up, makes me feel happier :D ... oh, and red oxide primer always makes me feel happy too!

You are good guys. Thanks Graham, minimuk, Ben, Chris and Steve. Still fed up of it but I am going to move onto other jobs soon.

I did the last, I hope, repair to the gutters at the drivers side rear corner

Posted Image

So after a bit of cleaning and cutting I had this to fill in

Posted Image

Again I tackled it in two bits repairing the roof lip first

Posted Image

Struggling to get the dip for the water to run out - the funny little marks are the gentle touches with my hammer!

Posted Image

And this is to fill the main damage

Posted Image

Welded

Posted Image

Posted Image

Welds dressed

Posted Image

And a wee bit of primer

Posted Image

There are a couple of bits that I was going to weld in repair patches but they are not perforated so I am going to rust treat and use a little filler. Isopon and me are very close friends. With his help these grotty roof repairs will fade into the past. When you make a good friend you don't let them go.

So I have to do brackets in the boot space; tidy up some poor welds; and then start wire brushing, rust treating, tidying welds, priming, seam sealing, stone chipping, painting - stop - not helping the depression!!

Moving along

Nice one Hugh. Your welding is neat and small too, can't get mine anyway near that tidy, maybe I am rushing, don't know, nice outcome though. I have primes and sealed the belly and am too considering stonechip, but how to apply?? One for the better weather for me!!

Keep on going.
