... is it metallic? Does it vary with engine speed? And it occurs only when you're moving and in gear? Can you and a passenger agree on the direction it's coming from?
It's not a disc dust cover, is it?[/quote]

Yes it is metallic. It only occurs when i am moving and in gear and especially at 1900-2100 rpm. We cannot figure out where it is coming from, but somewhere in the front of the car
Disc dust cover? How can i check that?

how about the exhaust knocking the body?
grab the tail pipe and waggle it hard

Tried that - didn't help. A funny little thing is that when the sound is there at 1900-2100 rpm - the Mini is also extra noisy over small bumps on the road and such. Lets say i am driving with 2500 rpm and then hit a small bump in the road - no sound. If i am driving with 2000 rpm and hit a small bump in the road - klonk noises. :)
I dont get this.. The engine steadies are brand new, and i cant move the engine at all. Are there other possibilities for mountings on a Mini which might make a sound?
Luckily he drives like a dream anyway - but still just a wee bit tiresome.
:)
