depends on what year your car is. Early cars had 5.5 gallon tanks so about 25 litres. later cars had 7.5 gallon tanks so about 34 litres

I'm concerned about my Mini's fuel gauge. Yeserday the needle was just below the halfway mark, today I went on a short trip to the gym and back and the next time I went out, the needle was in the red. I noticed it before I turned out my road so turned around to grab some more money for fuel. I had no idea on the tank size or how long a Mini will last with the fuel gauge in the red, but I made it to the local Morrisons and filled up until the pump automatically stopped. It came to just under £20 and when I got back in, the needle was close to, but not on the full mark. Now I've just checked the receipt and it said 16.5 litres.

So I don't know what has happened. I didn't notice the fuel gauge before I went to the gym but from the time I noticed it at just below halfway yesterday, I haven't travelled very far. In fact, I travelled a lot further the day before, getting lost testing the car out for the first time in daylight. Is it just that the fuel gauge did not come on properly and that was why it was showing empty? I don't see why it showed empty when I left the house and then when I left again after grabbing some money, but then it showed a full(ish) tank after filling up.

Any help is appreciated. This is my first Mini, only bought it Monday so I don't know too much.

Edit: Sorry for jacking the thread, but this was somewhat related so I didn't want to start a new one.

with the mini if you keep going till the pump stops there is still quite a bit of room left in the tank i just look in the fuel tank and keep filling till i see the fuel at the filler kneck base and then its full

If you just put the fuel nozzle right into the filler neck and fill it until it shuts off you won't have filled it right up. As you're filling up the tank directly you need to carefully continue filling as you pull the nozzle out and fill until you can see the fuel in the tank. I fill until the fuel is just creeping over the bottom of the neck of the tank.

Does that make sense?
