I have removed and upgraded the seats in a couple of BMW MINI's including my own MINI and would say they should be ok if you check the physical measurements fit the classic. Like most modern cars the seats contain side airbags so are more bulky than older style seats. The MINI subframe and seatbelt pre-tensioners can be unbolted if not required. Also check the seats for full recline and tilt functions as some early MINI's were prone to seat mechanisms jamming which are difficult to repair. The part leather 'Sports' seats are the best as fitted standard to MCS and optional on One and Cooper.

I know quite a lot of people who've done it.

there's quite a few cars in FABMOC who've had it done... you might want to put a post on their forum for more details :)

When i had my classic i fitted gen 1 MINI seats in, All i had made up for it was some brakets to hold them down, There was one draw back one fiited in i could not move them back or forward so had to have it done to my driving position. I didnt bother trying to wire up the airbags etc as it was to much work.
So yes it can be done.

Azbornmini, thanks for posting picture!
Any details or tips on fitting them in a classic Mini? Did you use the MINI subframes/runners, etc.

I used the frame of the seat itself to mount to the existing seat brackets on the cross member. I dispensed with the sliders as they made me sit to tall in the car. I was able to retain the height adjuster on the seat to adjust the rear height of the seat. Much of the plastic trim on the lower front of the seat was removed to gain access to the front mounts and also to allow the seat to tilt forward to gain access to the rear seat. All in all it is a good fit, but lack of fore and aft movement means it is set up for myself. I fit the seats as far back as possible (till they touched the side bins). To be honest I'm not sure about fitment in a late model Classic as there are not that many around here and I really don't remember what all is in the interior of one as the only one I can remember is a Cooper Sport 500 (illegally imported) and that was a few years ago. But they are comfortable and I can motor for many miles before stopping, unlike the previous seats. If I can find any more photos that have more detail, I will post in my "Gray Mini get going" album on Photobucket.
