Hi,

The car is a 1994 but has a pre verto setup, MED Ultralight flywheel and all the pre verto bits. I've just changed the diaphragm from a Grey to a Orange and got the thing started but I've got a rattling from the clutch end. Goes away when I press the clutch pedal, still selects gears fine and has got rid of the grinding from reverse which I had a problem with.

Sounds like a release bearing problem, it was fine before with the grey and I haven't touched the two big nuts? Any ideas? Not sure how its set as I've lost my Haynes too

Thanks

Mine does this, try applying pressure to the gear stick as if selecting a gear (be gentle) - if the noise goes away it is a drop gear problem.

I had a brand new box and it mad noises while ticking over, press clutch or apply pressure to gear stick and it goes away.

Gearbox man said it was because i replaced my idler gear and the set no longer match! but nothign to worry about mechanically

I'll test it and let you know cheers

Whats annoying me is that it wasn't doing it before :) Doesn't sound healthy either you can hear it rattling away from far

I dont think your nuts have something to do with it anyway =)

Hope you find the problem, my clutch is also ratteling with the orange diaphragm on, but it´s working well anyway.

if you had taken the wheels off i would have drove down to your house and poked you in the eye  i had a set of star mags on the car many moons ago and they were horrible

No idea about the rattle because it wernt doing it when i dropped it off, if you push the clutch and it goes away this points the the release bearing doesn't it ??

Don't get this. You said you changed only the clutch but your mechanicman said you changed the idler gear.

Sounds like a classic idler gear endfloat problem to me.

Eh?

I've only changed the diaphragm, clutch arm and slave. I think you're referring to Wilson1330 who changed the idler on his own car?

I've tried adjusting it but now can't get gears, clutch pedal feels a little soft now, I think it needs bleeding again?

:D

Did you keep the old thrust plate and retainer from the grey and transfer them onto the orange?

They often don't come with a thrust plate and spring though.

If you haven't changed anything else, and adjustment hasn't helped, I can't imagine the CRB has suddenly come loose. Did you check the clutch straps were all equal (as in where the holes line up) and flat? They could be resonating.

You do mean the part in the middle of the diaphragm, the part the CRB pushes against? Has a spring clip holding it in? If so then yeah it did come with it fitted.

The clutch straps were all fine, I did check them.

I think I might try bleeding the clutch and setting the adjustment again?
