only thing I will say is that the pockets don't look very uniform, it could just be the picture, if they are not all the cylinders will be running different compression ratio's, this is not ideal for smooth performance. i could be wrong and you may have accurately measured them, and again it is just the picture!

Sorry havnt looked for a while, had mine on the rollers at 56bhp thats with current spec, got a 12g206 head (yes really! i managed to find one!) coming for xmas and am going to get that sorted. Your head looks nice only thing i could say is get the valve guides ground back, very intrusive. Where did you get your head work done?
Liiarge, Dont sell it but if you do PM me please wiht prices of all your bits :)

Looking good, I would also much prefer a tuned 998 to a 1275, I have an MG 1275, simply because whether you like to admit it or not, they are cheaper power per pound than to build a fully tuned engine like yours. Good to see a bit of DIY, I built a 998 with pocketed block, I also did mine with a dremel type tool. Like has been said I'd try and make them more uniform. They seem to be deep enough, you can just about get away with fitting a 12g940 without pocketing if you have a standard cam, but valve bounce is never a good look so pocketing is wise!

cheers fellas. Headshop Warrington did the unleaded conversion for me
Yep DIY is the way to do it in my opinion, teaches you alot more than giving it to a machine shop and is cheaper
what ive done is made little moulds of the pockets out of blu tac to compare their size and shape, will get some more pics up in the next few days
got some new bits today - new double valve springs and new set of head bolts and nuts

I went for a brand new set of minispares studs, nuts and washers. Couldnt justify the cost of ARP bolts as Im not building a mad racing engine, standard will be fine for my application, my other motor has lasted fine on standards (nearly 70,00 miles:))

Nice! think that will be fine, might just get new bolts and leave the studs on there, already pre-stretched I suppose!

how much was the unleaded conversion to the head

ended up (including parts labour and VAT) £235 this price however included new guides and recut inlets aswell so its not a true price of just the unleaded conversion
I wish I would of sourced an unleaded 12g940 but we live and learn

hi there, are you using an a series block? anyone used an A+ block with flat top pistons? surely the higher compression engine is better. just wondering.

love this thread by the way, im doing the same thing with an a+ engine soon :w00t:

cheers Jaffer.
