Nothing has changed, still not RR the car, other circumstances forced me to put it all on the back burner, circumstances like saving about £6,000 toward my wedding, paying morgage, my daily car needing £600 of repairs and doing a hullova lot of work on my garden (I have concreted a large section of it and got a big shed to store mini stuff as the Mrs was starting to complain about bits all over the house, another £1000 spent!) My credit card has taken a pounding!I'm fed up of life getting infront of my mini obsession
However, this weekend, It starts again, gonna get it finished (before Crimbo hopefully)!borrowing a CO analyser off my mate so I can 100% sort the mixture at idle, when I last ran it I was using a colourtune to try and get it right, but to no avail (to be honest made it worse) If I rev the car the revs would stay high then take a while to come back down, need to adjust the jet and wotnot, will look at the tappets and the timing again
Sorry everyone about the lack of updates, but I just ran out of money and time recently, for example I want to get it RR and get camber and tracking set up so prob another £200, plus all the tonnes miscillaneous stuff I still need (choke cable, speedo, new dash, etc etc)

by the way, there seems to be an awful lot of 998 engine builds on here now, top stuff!maybe I've started a new trend.....
yeah i think so could be that the blocks are generally cheaper now than the 1275s. good luck on your project, ive got a 998 to although the mods dont add up to yours as i cant take the engine out as its my daily driver.

not to far away from me xD , nice build thread to be honest , similar to what im aiming to achieve , was this the first time you build an engine? how bad did you think it was ?
well this was my first build and when I do another one I will certainly do things differently to this, not that I've built this one wrong or anything, just know the pitfalls and the dos and donts. Before I started the build I did a ton of research and swatting up so the rebuild task didnt daunt me (although there was plenty of headscratching at times )
On the original 998 engine I took out the mini, I'm going to build it up ready to use if this current one breaks down:
new all punp, all new gaskets, source a 2nd hand decent lift cam, etc etc
In hindsight, things I would do differently on the next build:
1)Source an unleaded head (would save £160)
2)Not bother changing the cam bearings, they are a complete faff and dont really need doing unless completely knackered (save £50)
3)Probably use a 12g295 head (not worrying abot clearances and pocketing and all tha cafuffle)
4)Remember to make sure the timing chain clears the timing cover
If you want to see the engine when its 100% done and run in gimme a shout, Stokes only 55 mins away from me (I used to go University at Keele)

Chain no longer rubs on the case now, also I've redone the tappets, adjusted them to 12 thou, as per haynes
I have my friends CO analyser as well so can sort out mixture perfectly
Also going to set timing again as I have it far too advanced
on another note, I've downloaded all the megajolt boomf onto my laptop ready

998's are really nice engines, I got a great runner last august for only 30 quid!

Nice spec, would love to hear it once it's finished, is it possible to upload a video or something?

If you look a few pages back you can see the video of it running
I have got to refit the alternator and fill the radiator up and then I can have a go sticking the gas analyser up the exhaust
tracking and camber still needs setting up aswell as its still rubbing on the arches a bit (too much camber on it ya see)
