Doesnt sound too lumpy to me.

no its not too bad to be fair, but it is alot more lairy than my standard 998 though! TWR, you will be proud of me, i may (will know thursday) be buying a very good set of twin hif38's on maniflow intake with stub stax and with the ITG filter you have on :(

Twin hif 38's may well be too large for a 998 and your estimated BHP.

yes, perhaps it will be a bit overkill, will see how it goes
I have a pair of twin hs2s at the moment but i can get these hif's for a good price and i know they have been looked after and maintained, whereas the Hs2s I have are a bit of a punt that I picked up from a mini show

I think with the setup you're going for, twin 38's may be just about right. The HS2's are okay for a cooper type configuration, but you're going to be flowing air through a better head with larger valves and those HIF's may do the job better.

I'd go HS2's.

I run them on my 1275, and they're fantastic. As a rule of thumb, HS2's are good for up to 100bhp, with some slight airflow mods. Vizardise them!

Project's looking good :(

well, ive worked hard again tonight, all the negative camber is on, only bits and bobs to tie up now

wheels back on, and tried to run it but brakes had stuck on, got them unstuck and on the road

tried to give it a run up the road but revs wont stay up enough, needs a good tune up and also to sort the fuel pipe out as i had to make do with a plastic pipe which was getting too hot near the exhaust and (i think) collapsing, so I suspect fuel starvation

also, not sure what needle I should be running now, it still has the original needle out the bog standard 998 in it, so again, suspect may need a new needle

Haha i am proud.
Twins are good.

I would go for the HS2's personally but mix it up ^_^
Try the HIF38's its something different

Not sure about the needle. Buy a Gunsons colour tune and do that on it and itll tell you alot about mixture. Then at least you can get 200odd miles on it before you rolling road it mate :)

well, i should know today if the twin 38 are mine, fingers crossed
never seen twin 38s on a 998, so will see how it goes ^_^

I would think that I will possibly need a needle more suited to a 1275, seeing as Im using a ported 12g940 and different cam, think the air/fuel mixture is all to *******, so this is also why its bogging down under acceleration, as I say, needs a good tune up

Twin HIF38s seems a bit like overkill to me? Surely a big single carb would be better for overall airflow. Its not like the cylinders are all sucking at the same time.

right, got in touch with Mini guru AC Dodd as regards to my carb and needle choice, and he says the HS4 is too small for this spec, he suggested hif44, so gonna try and get those twin38s, they will be fine

I've run twin HIF38's on my 998 with 12G295 head, 1.5 TITAN roller rockers, lightened flywheel 266 cam etc and it was pretty rapid. I can get a video for you if needed. They needed setting up but i'd say go for them as worked good on mine.
