Hi again guys,

Just cleaning my engine prior to a re-build and under the muck and mess I discovered this broken fitting: -

It is the bracket that holds the rod change steady rod to the gearbox.

How serious is it?

Can I use it in this condition?

I don't have the bit that fell off so I can't weld it back on or anything...

[EDIT] It is actually on the diff housing but somebody (on here) mention that the diff and gearbox where machined as a matched pair and couldn't be separated.

Either get it built up with weld (5% silicone rod) or replace the case are your only options

Thanks Paul...

I have as much chance of getting it welded here (Cyprus) as I have of flying to the moon this arvo...

A new case it is then...

Surely there must be someone there who can weld aluminium??? RAF/Army workshops; dairy, refrigeration or air conditioning companies?

From you mail I thought it was completely broken, that I would put a new bush in and it will probably hold for many years, It's not there in a support role like and engine steady or mount, it's just to maintain a constant distance between the gearbox and the remote unit.

Actually if you cleaned all the gink out of there and stuck some sort of epoxy in there it would help too.

Thanks for all your inputs guys... this forum is a life saver...

I decided that, as I have the whole car in pieces (and was going to rebuild the engine/gearbox anyway) to buy a new gearbox/diff housing from Guess-works (at an amazing price) and do it all properly... I've already spent €9,000 on the damn thing...
