Week off work this week, so managing to get a bit more done. Scuttle panel & closing plates welded on. Then fitted front subframe, front panel & bonnet. the bonnet, wings & front panel were all ebay auction wins. The front panel is the only non-heritage panel so far. It doesn't look too bad fit when the wings are offered up. But I won't weld a thing until I'm happy everything will align. Bonnet took a while to get right but happy so far.

wooow im still in shock to the amount of work you have done to this once sad looking mini :)

cant wait to see her all finished :)

Thanks Danny, I'm looking forward to getting some good progress done over Xmas. Hopefully be back to a basic mini shape shell again..!

Bit more done today. Got the front end mostly on. I'm not convinced by the aftermarket front panel. But fairly committed to using it now. heritage panels take some work but this panel has been fighting me quite a bit. One wing has closed up the bonnet gap a bit when the top edge was welded so a little adjustment will be needed before welding anymore. But it's good to have a mini shaped front again after looking at a rusty box for a while.

New Year update. Drivers side a-panel welded on & lip bent over as per the tech tip on this forum. Passenger side lower door frame & door hinge panel welded in. The drivers door has been trial fitted & will need some adjustment. But considering all the possible errors whilst changing panels it's not far off. Next week passenger door & a-panel.

Weekly update. A-panel welded on the passenger side. Forgot to take pics of that side. Will post that next time. Otherwise this weeks exploits were the drivers rear wheel arch. The quarter panel has only been screwed on up til now. So the rear bin has been welded in with the arch closing panel. Inner sill welded to the heel board. Just gotta work out which way the sill stiffening panel fits now.

Coming along nicely there, picture of the sill stiffener but this is a home fabbed one but gives you an idea of how it goes

The tang that welds onto the closeout panel should be longer but i shortened mine to match the other side.

Hope this helps

Neil

Thanks Neil, that does help. Not always obvious with the incidental panels. Cheers.

Thanks for the comments. Next update should be this weekend. The welding gas ran out last Saturday afternoon. As inconvenient as it gets. Regulator finally gave up as well. Hopefully get the new regulator by the weekend. I've just been doing tidying jobs since. Grinding back welds & things. So nothing visually spectacular but neccessary. If the regulator doesn't turn up in time I might make a start on cleaning up the subframes.

Good news on the regulator, ordered on Tuesday from Ebay & arrived Wednesday, excellent service from wecsltd. Hopefully back to the welding at the weekend. Thanks for the encouraging comments folks.

Got a bit distracted this weekend with the next project. Wanted to go to Bingley Hall but thought working on the mini was more important right now. Just a hint for the next project.
