Not much done on the mini this weekend, but will be having a push to get it all done very soon. Might even take some time off work to crack on. Going a bit off track for this thread but I have a special occasion coming up in a couple of months which requires several cars.  The mini will be one of them. This has been using up some of my time.

I'm hoping one relative will be coming through with one very classic vehicle. Meanwhile I have been rustling up some other options. Living up to my name sake, having needed to move my Jaguar XJS temporarily I took the opportunity to take it to a local Jaguar specialist to track down a misfire. I've spent a long time looking for the cause & decided to cut my loses & call in an expert. Hopefully it will come back with an MOT as well..! Also to cover all the bases I thought I had better get something more spacious & modern. Another Jaguar ofcourse. I always like an older Jag as they are alot of car for your money. This one was just luck as it was the first one I looked at. Very little wrong with it, just a blowing exhaust. Polished up a treat. If any of the vehicles doesn't pan out on the day then I have some built in redundancy & can change plans accordingly. I promise to be back to mini talk next post.

I love this project, your work is superb! I show this thread to everyone, minimad and not so minimad, they all don't believe its the same car and how much work you must have put in. Many of them have now read through the entire project thread and like me are baffled and regularly check for updates..!

Work is excellent, keep it up to the end! :D

Thankyou very much, great praise indeed. The end is indeed nigh. Well more like the beginning of regular mini driving. Not much left to do now.

Rounding up the jobs left to do now. I stripped one of the old doors down & the runners are too rotten. Would probably leave the window on the piss in the frame unable to move on first go. So I've ordered a new kit from minispares with a small selection of other final parts. This means waiting a few days to finish the doors so I'll be looking at any other jobs this weekend. I fitted the bonnet catch last night with internal; release. I used part of an upgrade kit & some bicycle brake parts. Just needs some fettling now.

I am truly staggered.

Had the car belonged to me, it would have been weighed in ages ago!

More power to your considerably skilled elbows!

Cheers

Sean

Thanks Sean, I don't think there was enough to weigh in. If I'd left it another couple of years it would have bio-degraded on it's own. But I owed it a chance for a come back. No mini panel too scary now!

Not a bad weekend for progress. Still waiting for door parts from minispares so tackled other things on the list. Fitted front & rear number plate holders. Front bumper as well. I had to shave some metal off the ends of the bumper to stop it fouling the big front arches. Luckily the stainless steel was easily removed with a flap disc with no discolouration. Adjusted the passenger door again & fitted the catch to the frame with a Smithy's Bit's stainless catch plate. All adds to the shiny effect. Adjusted the new tappets to correct clearance. Ran the engine for five minutes, let it cool & did them again. Engine running well now. Grill fitted too. That took some work to get all the holes to line up & side trim had to be trimmed. Very keen to drive it again now. It has those big luxuries of windscreens, doors & carpets that were missing on the first drive. Must've been like driving CLM's Moke? Not much left to get it road worthy now. Needs a damn good wash though, looking forward to doing that.

Still waiting for window runners. Minispares were out of stock of one part, so didn't send any of the kit. Have ordered from alternative supplier now. But did get bonnet catch pin, spring etc. & the bonnet front trim. All fitted last night. So bonnet closes ok now. Also got some circlips for the door catches. Will have a go at fitting them tonight.

Thanks Hugh. Yes, normally I've got such a long list I am spoilt for choice on what to do. But definitely need to get the doors finished now.
