is there any particular reason you went for 13's and not 10's? im just curious.... does look nice with the arches tho

cheers james

The reasoning for the general spec. of the car is to have bits & pieces that I couldn't get when I was doing minis years ago. Coil spring suspension for instance. I wanted big wheels back then & 12" were very hard to get & 12" tyres virtually impossible. The choice now is vast & cheap! I've liked the 13" wheels since Rover started putting them on. Racers were using them a long time ago too. 10" wheels are very popular at the moment. 20 years ago you couldn't give them away. I run a set of 12" on another mini & the next project will have 10", so just different wheels for different styles.

A small success to many but a major triumph for me. As previously mentioned the rear plate light plinth was causing me alot of grief. Mainly due to paint reacting. I ended up painting two of them at the same time to increase likelihood of success. Got there in the end & bolted one on last night. Light bulb holders are a bit of a dubious design & one will need fettling to work reliably. But looking good now. I think that's the rear end done for now. Will be working my way forward to finish everything else off.

Seat belts fitted last night. Used a set from Minispares which came with a selection of bolts & brackets. I did have to buy some longer bolts for the inertia reels to the rear pockets. (7/16" unf x 2"). Also packed the reel out slightly as it fouling the pocket & wouldn't retract fully. But all in now. The left over brackets for the belts will come in handy elsewhere. Mounting the horns for instance..! Just got to clean up the seat retaining brackets that bolt through the floor & the front seats are ready to go in.

Thanks Hugh, yes the light at the end of the tunnel is real for me now. The paint didn't work out bad. Learning all the time for the next one!

This week so far I have fitted the steering column properly. Also the indicator stalk & cowling. Looking alot tidier inside now.

Front carpet in, heater finally wired & screwed in place. Floor brackets for seats bolted in. I've dug the seats out & I'm putting the subframes on in the living room. I have found with classic buckets in the past that a small spacer at the rear of the drivers seat just puts them at a nice angle. I'm looking at fitting some nylon spacers between the seat & subframe. Photo later on today.

New roller rockers. 1.3 ratio. Had a set of sintered ones on before, which worked fine. But time for an upgrade.

Also new rocker cover. The old one had been faithful but needs a good polish. So to give the engine a little facelift I have got this one from Minits. It was listed as black wrinkle finish. But it's more like a hammered grey/silver. But I kinda like it. I need to check the clearance with the bonnet before deciding where to refit the breather. Also had to grind some notches in the flange for the two extra studs.
