Hi, very nice build.

Can I ask about those white bulkhead grommets which the brake lines are running through? How do they work and where did u get them from?

Many thanks

Kevin

Hello Kevin, they are electrical glands. They are supposed to be for electrical cable to rub through for protection & to stop water getting in. I got the idea from another rebuild on this thread. They close down a rubber grommet around the pipe as you tighten them. Makes a tidy transition through the bulkhead & hopefully protects the pipe from chaffing. You can get them from B&Q, screwfix & ebay. I will be using some larger ones for the heater pipes.

I love it when people find new & neater ways of doing things without compromising the original idea.
Brill thread altogether.

Dashboard update, made another piece for the dials that was slightly larger. Cut all the holes & had a go at the carbon fibre wrap. Could have done a test piece but was too impatient & just went for it. Not totally unhappy with the result. The problems were anticipated. Quick shot with a speedo below. Should get some more done this week. Rushing it could be my downfall as I will have to look at this dashboard everytime I drive it..! :shy:

<Glad my thread has helped others. I'll admit white was the original colour & I couldn't be bothered to change the logbook. But in retrospect it do like white for it's clean look.

Thanks, I can't take all the credit for this idea, but like you say there are a number of features on a mini that could be improved slightly just by using components that are easily accessible.

Thanks, I hope it helps motivate anyone to save a mini rather than scrap them. They are getting less by the day. This one was mainly just a desire to have a solid shell without the BMH new shell cost.

Brilliant progress! Loving it!

As for carbon wrapping, use water with abit of washing up liquid on the item being wrapped, preferably out of a spray bottle, mist it 1st and a filler spreader helps to smooth any air bubbles, the water/washing up liquid helps the wrap slide without sticking until the water evaporates! use a heat gun to soften it a little as you wrap, and keep it tight, less wrinkles, better finish!
