A bit more done today. New o/s rear wheel arch in.
Still need to do the full plug welding underneath later when the shell gets rolled over.

Hi, fascinating project! Worse than mine even.

I'm in a similar position with my boot floor and wheel arches, how did you ensure that the arches are lined up correctly without the rear quarters for reference? Or is it a case of using 'original construction techniques'?

Cheers -
Mike

Hello Mike, I've lined up the arch using the boot floor & squab board mainly. The squab board is pretty much where it was with the old arch as I was able to drill out the spot welds. The new boot floor is fairly close to the profile of the arch so took only a small amount of jiggling & cursing. I clamped the arch first & then offered up the quarter panel & the closing panel infront of the arch. I have left the passenger arch in for reference so I also ran a spirit level across the tops of the arches to check height. Hopefully that should be somewhere handy. I'm happy with the result so far. The rear panel should be going on this weekend after a couple of other small bits. Good luck with yours Mike.

Weekly update. Got the squab repair done, not the prettiest but nice & solid. Inspired by 'Project Erm' repair. But probabaly without the fabrication skills they used. The drivers side wheel arch to squab bracket was then welded in. This left the squab panel rigid enough to remove the parcel shelf. I was going to try & save the parcel shelf but the rear accident damage had left it slightly bent & subsequently a few large rusty holes had formed. As I was keen to get any alignment back I had to discard the bent shelf. I offered up the rear panel earlier in the week & marked out all the final cuts. So the panel I've been dying to attach since I bought it is the rear panel. the mini has finally got it's round butt back after 20years of a crumpled bottom! Next week, drivers door frame & quarter panel.

Weekly update, finished welding the rear panel along the boot floor. Welded in the boot to squab/seatbelt bracket. The fun bit for the weekend was fitting the new lower door frame on the drivers side. It's the heritage all in one lower frame. So getting the right angles isn't so difficult. I kept the inner wing door hinge bolt holes, so was able to comfirm alignment of the door post.

Thanks, I have employed the 'ignore everything else' method to find time to get it done. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up the progress.

Hoping to have the basic shell complete by Christmas. Then use Christmas break to get some final fettling or catching up.

Weekly update, decided to change the plan. Was gonna work on the front end but looked at how little the floor was now doing & how much the lack of inner sills was holding up other areas. So a few careful cuts & the floor was out. Ran out of time to get the new floor in this weekend but got the floor cross member welded up. Just gotta add the seatbelt mounts & the jacking points. Also a little bit more tidying up the shell.

Thanks for the comment. I couldn't see any other options for the parcel shelf available. I didn't mind the later one it's alot straighter that the original & has the speaker holes if I want to use them. I can always blank them off if I don't want to use them.
