Just a quick mid week update. Tried the KAD rack limiters, turns out you need to heat them with heat gun to soften them enough to slide over the rack. Sadly they didn't fit my quick rack so I won't be using them. Painted the front wing lips that I 'adjusted'. Got a preliminary height setting for the front suspension. Looks low enough, helped by the new fibreglass arches, but stiil plenty of clearance from the bump stop. Will set the second height today as close as I can. I've been studying the exhaust manifold as well. The collector for it is a race version with no clamping mechanism. Just lugs for a spring. I spoke to Maniflow as they do a road version collector. But that has a different bore. So my options are, get handy with the welder & modify the collector to add some tubing that will accomodate clamps. Or get an off the shelf LCB (more cost). I'm going to try & tack the collector together at the weekend first & see how it looks without committing too much time. Hoping to get all the work under the car finished in the next week.

Made a decision on the exhaust manifold. I've gone for a Maniflow stage 2 (mild steel) LCB. I wasn't confident in any modification that I could make to the collector would be strong enough. Or not cause other problems down the line. Will just have to save that one for another project. Minits seemed to have the best price so got one from there & a new rocker cover to boot. Old manifold is out, new manifold is painted. Heat wrap on tonight & installed asap. This should connect straight to the exhaust system. So hope to have that on very quickly after manifold.

Manifold update. It's painted & the heat wrap applied. Trial fitted. Fits on very well. Better than some old types I used to use. Will give it a final paint tonight. I have used heat wrap on all my classic projects as several have had problems with fuel vapourisation. The heat under the bonnet causes it to lock into the fuel line & either misfires or won't start after short break. Very embarrasing at an MOT test.

Manifold & complete exhaust system fitted. Stainless RC40 twin box. Took a little bit of fiddling but it all lined up pretty well. Nice shiny exhaust.

Just read through and fantastic job. Get really inspired then quickly followed by moments of dread thinking about how to get mine to the same level. Keep it up and thanks for the info. Learning a lot

Thanks Hugh, it's coming together slowly. Anything that's even slightly modified is taking twice as long to get right. But it's getting there.

Thanks, the belly has had a couple of costs of stone chip & a some waxoyl in the crevices & a dusting generally underneath so hopefully that should be enough. I was more concerned with the enclosed bits like sills. So I've filled them with cavity wax. Ofcourse if I only take it out in the summer it'll never get wet..!
