Time for an update. Rear subframe cleaned & painted. Hopefully start assembly on that soon.
Drivers outer sill prepped & welded on.
Spit jig is working out well. I tried out rotating the shell to various angles. Seems reasonably well balanced. It'll be interesting moving to some different positions for the final work.

Dan

Try this, it's the cheapest on ebay, but you get what you pay for as you have to weld it yourself & it comes with no bells & whistles. It might be possible to buy the material cheaper if you shop around. But this does come cut to size/angles. As you can see it does spin right round.

Yes, a pole is required. Luckily I had one kindly donated.

Still working away on the shell despite other mini distractions. Spit jig still perfoming well. Working on the passenger sill/jacking point. Plenty of prepping with paint. Should have sill on by the end of the week & then on with the rest of the underpanels!

No no, please....it's a 'Foldable' workbench. Quite handy actually for doing a few jobs on & folds away for space. Not bad for £8..!

Weekly update. Got the second sill welded on. Finshed seam welding the inside of the rear arch. Would have had the valance & closing panels on but the gas prematurely seems to have run out. Not sure if BOC short changed me on the gas there. one bottle lasts 2 years the next 2 months! Need to look into this. Managed to get a couple of plug welds on the valance. Change of plan gave me some time to grind back the welds & treat it with some dinitrol. Hopefully catch up on the welding during the week.

Easter weekend update, finished the rear valance & closing panels. Welded on the slinging bracket things at the four corners. Welded on the battery cable guide. And finally welded in the dash rail & support frame. I thought it would be nice to offer up the dashboard to check the rail position. But forgot the great scaffold pole running through the middle of the car. The spit jig is really working out. I'm moving the shell around all day long just to get the best angles. Hopefully another bit of progress tomorrow.

Thanks, it's very pleasing to have a nice solid shell. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer...! Nice to get compliments from other mini restorers too!

The extra days this weekend have been very useful. Worked on the drivers front wheel arch today. I'd already cut the arch a while ago using the minispares template to fit 13" wheels. So today I was recreating a lip to strengthen the wing & remove the sharp edge. Just incase it rubs on the tyre at some point. Allowed myself a bit of fun & offered up the wheel arch & a tyre just to see how it looked. Just gotta repeat it on the other side now.
