Mini Clubman 1275 GT, 1979.

Engine 1293cc

Sportex Exhaust

Hs4 carb.

Recently finished the rebuild on my 1275 GT.

It passed its MOT fine, but the tester said he had to weaken the mixture on the carb to get it through the emissions test, but ran like a bag of spanners popped and backfired through the carb all the way home, and lacked anypower when i put my footd down,he told me to rebuild the carb so i did.

I made a note of the tag on the carb phoned carb company they told me the carb was of a Austin 1300 1971-72??, anyway ordered the parts rebuilt and put it back on starts ok and idles fine, but still backfires and just no power or acceleration takes an age to get to 30mph!!!!,and when you floor it nothing happens slow and pops and bangs through the carb...........also it did run after turning off, this was after i tried to enrichen the carb.

Just to point out everything on the engine is new full rebuild.

my own fault really gone this far with the rebuild should of gone for a new/recon carb.

I have been offered a HIF 38 would this be a good replacement.??

thats your best bet,

my carb a HIF44 did this i couldnt go any faster than 35mph.

it was massively overfuelling, the engine was litterally drowning.

hope you win this one bud :D

Nooooooo!

Don't go HIF, they are a rubbish design that just makes road side repair a pain in the arse.

what kind of repairs are you talking about? the hif carbs are nearly maintenance free. plus you dont get any fuel starvation on hard cornering.

as for the carb, have you got the right needle fitted?

I'd try for a hif44 with a 1293cc if funds allow it would be worth the money then a rolling road session. If not then the hif38 and a rolling road session.
