Hi there, I'm just considering my options when it comes to wheels.
I've heard that 10" wheels can help comfort, but I'm just considering what would look best with Sportspack wheel arches & give me the most comfortable ride possible. I must admit that I quite like the look of something like this:
Posted Image
However, I also like the Compomotive CXR wheels, and it says in a magazine feature that they're used in that they're the same weight as a 10" set-up. Is this correct?
Posted Image
If so, would they have the same effect as a proper 10" set-up? ie; improving the comfort of the car?
Thanks in advance :proud:

10 Inch wheels will improve the handling of the mini as it was designed to be driven with 10 inch wheels, the comfort may be increased it depends on the profile size of the tyre, i changed my 12's for 10's recently and it does seem to "cushion" the bumps more but it is a slight bit more bouncy, if you want a more comfortable ride have you thought about suspension, this is the biggest thing when it comes to comfort.

With 10's of the correct width and offset, the benefits are handling and looks. The ones that fill sports pack arches don't handle as well, and put strain on the running gear. Not a good idea. 13's are fine if the car is set up properly.

Yeah, I've already given a bit of thought to the supension, but thanks for the other bit.

How do you mean? To me you just contradict yourself. Aren't 'the ones that fill the sportspack arches & 13s the same thing basically? Okay, the width might be different, but still...

Lol, yes, I wondered who'd be the first to spot that - it's currently on sale at GC Motors, which is where I got the pic from.
Very nice car too, might I add.

all of it, wide tens that fit sportpack arches do handle and handle well if the car is setup, no car will handle well regardless of wheels if the geomtry is not right

this thing of tens handle better than anything else is rubbish as well, tens givemore feedback and are more forgiving making them "feel" like there the best choice 10's 12's and 13's all can handle well just depends on how there setup

wolfie, can you explain to me why 10's are more forgiving:)? im currently collecting parts for a new project and can not decide what size wheels to go with:( but if you could give me some good reasons to go with 10's that'd be awesome:) also can you lower a mini as low(and safetly) on 10's? can you still fit coil-overs ect?:proud: (and if anyone has any pics of low mini's on 10's thatd be awesome tooo:)(sorry to hijack)

thanks

right i am no motorsport engineer so its only common sense opinion, i believe 10's feel more forgiving and give more feedback hense why people say they handle better is a few things, there lighter so you have reduced your unsprung weight, the tyres on the 13's have very stiff sidewalls making them less forgiving and lastly i think you get more heat into the tyres on tens

The twins wil and ben with there hillclimbers run 13's and buy all accounts they handle superb, again its down to what you like what your used to and how the car is set up, someone who likes the feel of 10's will say that 13's dont handle and visa versa

my car runs 6 3/4 wide 10's and really does handle nice, bill sollis said he loved the way my car handled and for me thats a fairly decent compliment you can see how well it goes in the minifilms dvd before the engine let go :proud: so this wide 10's argument is just rubbish imo

more tyre well, air to soak it up

so if the ones that are big enough to fill sports pack arches are no good, does this mean the even bigger ones that fill miglia arches on lets say a miglia car are no good too?

I think he may have been referring to the steel wheels with a massive offset maybe that make them look wide.

EDIT: i agree with the fact that wide tens handle awesome, i have 6x10's and they are awesome.

You asked for pics so...

Attached File  DSC00649.jpg   122.77K   47 downloads

Mates one on 10"s that he's threatening to dig out for next year. From a purely personal and 'cosmetic' point I think some 13"s can look a bit too big on Minis. I've just put one back on 12"s that came with 7x13 Superlites and sportpack arches because the friend that bought thought it looked wrong (altho to be fair the whoever'd put them on had made a dogs dinner of it and the arches were broken where it hadn't been clearanced for the rims - at all :) )
I do currently have one with 10s and 165/70/10 A008s and the kit car runs 13s with 175/50/13 yokos too. The kit car feels a little harsher, even considering the racer has fully rose jointed suspension tho I think the cones are getting a bit tired on it. Further hangling comparison is probably a little unfair as as the racer is nicely set up and the poor old McCoy is pretty much as I dragged it out the shed bar new shocks!
