Picked this up last sunday, needs a bit of work but gives me something to do!

Bit of an issue with it idling when i got it, would idle but was a bit rough and died occasionally and died when you pull up at a junction when choke is off, turned out to be a one way valve on the inlet manifold!

Changed the coolant on thursday, fixed the speedo today so it actually does something, only trouble is that it reads 1/2! Fixed the indicators that wouldn't work, just a loose connection! Bargain!
Gave it a quick t-cut and looks a bit better!

It doesn't look that low in the pics but it is! Plenty low enough for me anyway!! Its got a bigger turbo on of some sort already, the plan is to tidy it up a bit and get it running spot on then start tweeking it! :proud:

Dan, i bought it with it not idling, with 5 months mot and 2 months tax for £850, they are going up in price now as they all rust away!

Nice looking GT, They were good cars if you had one that didnt suffer from over heat problems and heat soak. They could be ramped up to around 250 bhp. I was never a fan of them tho due to the sleaved engine (renault never did get it right in them days) I always loved my MK1 Uno Turbo, 240 bhp of pocket rocket and more reliable (just a shame they didnt have better seats).

i had 2 of these over the years, a dark blue metalic one (raider for those in the know) and then a red one with 214bhp, it had everything, silly turbo, different cam, water injection, side exit exhaust with no silencer!!! big front mount intercooler, and a great sound track to listen to when you drove it hard, like a jet engine, oh and 2 bar of boost!

never again though! would love a turbod mini like that maybe?

looks lovely though dude, and a bargain!

Used to have 1 of these, keep threatening to buy another but they just went stupid with the prices a few years ago, seem to be settling back down a bit now so might have to have another look, although this would mean getting rid of the mini so maybe not

I was jelous of all the pictures i kept seeing of other peoples, so i thought i may as well go and get one! Cheaper than turboing/supercharging the mini!
Been buying a few bits to tidy it up, oe boost hoses etc, nothing too exciting.
Have also found my spare forge intercooler out of my shed, so may well fit that behind the bumper if i can when i take the bumper off to respay it, also gonna get a wideband lambda gauage so i can sort the fueling out myself, and up the boost some more :P

Did have a bit of an issue with a spit water hose the other day, pulled up at a set of lights after an 'enthusiastic' drive, and had steam pouring out from under the bonnet! Didnt boil it or loose all the water, so replaced the hose and topped it up. Sorted! Could have been a lot worse!

This is the intercooler i have(type 04)500mm x 60mm x 17mm:

Just thought i'd update this as i saw the topic about other small cars!

Took it to the renault turbo owners club weekend this summer at blyton park in gainsborough, was great fun apart from beiing ill! But it did highlight the fact that my suspension was rubbish!! I have a brand new set of koni shock absorbers on there way within the next month so that should improve that no end!

Ran it on the free dyno and it produced 137bhp which isn't too bad considering the engine is original as far as i know, just running an air filter, t25 turbo, 2.5" exhaust and 14psi boost.

Posted Image

Since then the tax run out at the end of september so into the bodyshop it went, full respray, repairs to the inner and outer sills, jacking points, front and rear bumper mounts and a few other small bits.

Made a good passenger seat out of two i had as the bolster had collapsed on mine, just need to find a tidy drivers seat which are like hens teeth and when you do find one they are mega money!

Still got some more bits to do but at least its completely solid now i can sort the interior out and then possibly start thinking about some more power! :sneaky:

I'm absolutely gutted seeing your 5 now i wish i'd kept mine!
You'll have met quite a few of my mates off rtoc at national day.
Who ran the rollers? I didn't think scoff's were mobile.
My 5 was black and on turbines always the best colour
