Cant open the bonnet.

Year:1975
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

Just bought my mini which is a 1975 mini 1000 and didnt ask the guy who sold it me how to open the bonnet? i cant remember what he did. So can anyone help cheers.


Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?

there should be a latch behind the grille, pull that to the right or left (cant remember) , then feel under the right hand side of the bonnet for a catch, push it inwards and pull the bonnet up

in the centre of the grill theres normally a cut out stick your hand in, slide it to the right when you feel the catch, then it should pop open to the safety catch, then on the right hand side of the bonnet you push that catch and it should open.

Get some initiative mate. It's a very old mini, you will be needing to work some things out to fix/use them.

EDIT: sorry, read a lot harsher than I mean it. Don't take it as if I'm being a ******* I'm not.
