Anymore progress on this mike?

A bit; On its wheels and steerable, gearbox and diff rebuilt, engine beginning strip down, handbrake system refitted, doors mounted, bootlid mounted. Glass next.

So quite a lot then I guess after all :)

Will get some pics up eventually...

Wicked does sounds a fair amount of progress. She is coming together really well :)

Well it's been a fair old while and no updates. The end is in sight now:

Looking great, I love the colour. Be great to see some final pictures of it. You are very nearly over the finishing line now, fantastic!

I've been doing a bit of tinkering with the mini over the weekend. I still cannot get the brakes sorted. It's fitted with 7.5" discs and although not new, the calipers are all moving freely. I fitted the larger Cooper S master cylinder from Mini Spares (GMC172). I have also fitted a brand new remote servo (generic) with (I think) 1.9 ratio.

The problem I am having is excessive pedal travel.

I have adjusted the rear brakes properly (brand new, Minisport assemblies)

I have bled the system through using an Easybleed and collected half a litre collectively from the four corners. I have also bled the system in the tradtional way, and then re-bled using the Easybleed. I did not get any air out the last two methods.

When the engine is running, the pedal pretty much bottoms out. There is braking effect but no reserve.

If I pump the pedal with the engine off it feels okay, which experience suggests is badly adjusted drums. But I have double checked these and there is no more adjustment to be had.

When I had the Easybleed connected, the pedal felt absolutely bang-on.

I'm out of ideas, short of taking the servo off and re-bleeding. Any suggestions?

Cheers -

how did you bleed the system.......rear left first then rear right, front left then front right.......and did you do it with servo activated

Have you got the calipers on the right sides. bleed nipple to the top.

Lovely car :-)

Yep, furthest to nearest the master cylinder. How do you mean with the servo activated? With the engine running?

Yeah they're the right way up. And thanks, she still needs a lot of interior work though

I had a similar issue once and it turned out that the brakes needed to bed in little bit and after a few miles it was fine (rather suprisingly), either that or some trapped air found its way out.

One other thing to try is clamping off each flexi hose in turn, if it suddenly gets better when you clamp one off then thats the place to start looking.

Wish I'd fitted the C pillar trim before fitting the rear window. Bugger.

Still on the road. Not enjoying the mental 1380 as much as I'd imagined when I was younger.. I now have a rebuilt 1098/295 to put in and will be selling the 1380 on 22g1128 box shortly, or breaking it for the many new parts its has.
