For installation stuff you could go to your local car audio place, get it from cad or try maplin.

I use 8awg cable on mine but the amp is on a boot board so the cable needs to be quite flexible (had 4awg and it was a pain in the ass).

Oh and it will sound a hell of a lot better than the standard lol

Great! :w00t: I will need to get flexible wire too, how many wires go from the amps to the battery?

Will my battery/alternator handle all this OK?

I cant seem to find any wiring kits on CAD =( can anyone point me in the right direction?

All the best

If you have a standard mini battery and alternator you might want to upgrade then, running 2 amps is gonna drain the battery if there is not sufficeint charge going in.

A 55amp mg metro alternator would just do although a 70amp would be better, as for the battery just buy the biggest that will fit in the hole (you are looking for the one with the highest cranking amps CCA). A peugeot 306 diesel battery will fit.

As for cable you need 1 live and 1 earth per amp, as well as 2 sets of phono leads (from headunit to amp), you also need to run a trigger from the headunit to the amps.

Then you need speaker cable from amps to speakers and in-line fuses for the + side of the amp (as near to the battery as possible).

You also may need terminals to fit on the power and speaker leads depending on how they are connected on amp and speaker.

8 awg cable

speaker cable

fuse holder

How do you mean run a trigger from the HU to the amps? my friend has a switch he flicks when he wants to turn on his subs, is this just the same sort of thing?

So I need a live (both fused as close to the battery as poss) wire and an earth from each amp, where is the best place to earth it in the rear of the mini?

Is the 8 awg cable for the subs? (escuse my noobishness).

Is there somewhere I can find some explaination of how its all wired? all seems a bit confusing to me : / I have a friend who has installed alot of I.C.E and seems to know what he is on about, but I need to be sure before he go's messin with my car!

Appreciate all the help you guys have given me.

most headunits have a remote wire which is to switch the amp on when the haed unit switches on.
All amps have this otherwise the amp would be on permanently.

8awg wire is the thickness of the power and earth cable

just connect the eath to the neg on the battery, thats what i have done.

ahhh right, didnt think you could do that :w00t: makes things more simple. is there a wiring kit that comes with all this and just add the extra wire needed for the extra amp etc?

All the best

A wiring kit would be fine in a normal car...though in a Mini you'll have no use for the 5m of power cable!

true but for 25quid its not that much of an expense. i bought a wiring kit and just saved the extra cable for the next time.

so a kit like that would do the job, rather than spending loads on expensive wires?

My dad said that he will spend 200 quid on me for christmas, I hate not having surprises but he said he wouldnt want to get the wrong thing for my mini and me feel obliged to fit it. So im gettin the bigger amp and the head unit. cant really do much with any of it but it came closest to 200 quid hehe. I may install the original rears *GaG* and install the Head Unit because it looks cool :w00t:

I was thinking it would be cool to have the cooper laurel around each sub sewn in, but I cant think of what material to Use, and where to get it sewn, I think it would be large enough to look good if time is spent on it.

Maybe black bass box carpet (think kind) and thin leather laurel.

Thanks again for all the help lads.

I just put my original rover speakers in the gap where my rollcage is (the one in the pics in the footwell), it fits perfect and surprisingly enough, it looks good just sitting over the bars, what size are the std rover speakers? and could anyone reccomend any componant or coaxials to fit there? If I can do it without any modification im gonna put the std rover ones for the the time being, just curious to see what the difference is with speakers at the front :)

All the best

Tom
