Hi
My car is a 1960 mini, with an 850cc engine. It has the original exhaust / inlet manifold casting. I think the manifolds were originally painted in engine green, as I can see traces of the original paint still on it.
Can I use engine paint on the manifold? Will it get too hot for this enamel paint? if so, I will have to use the high temperature type of paint.
I would prefer to use the green engine enamel, as this is the correct BMC green which looks more authentic.
Also, the manifold has heavy surface rust. What type of treatment should I give to it before any kind of paint is applied?
Thanks
john

hi there john
for cleaning up the manifod for painting it i would just give it a rub down get all the surface rust of it and then give it a spray.
im not 100% sure about the paint but i think you would be better with the high temp paint, if i remember rightly you can get a green high temp paint, i would imagine the manifold would get to hot for the enamel paints.

BBQ paint is used quite alot on manifolds. Gives a nice matt/stain black finish, but would depend how authentic and original you want it to be.
I'd check to be sure if the manifolds were painted BMC green before you go to too much effort finding some green paint that'll be up to the temp.
