I've got a 296 scatter in my 1380 currently, with 1.5:1 roller rockers

Would you recomend this cam with the rockers in a long stroke engine? 84mm MED wedged crank, cooper S rods, omegas pistons

sorry to go off topic but didn't want to start a new thread lol

OP I do agree that it could be a idea to get the crank worked a bit, I know you're talking about getting a ultralight flywheel which I'd recomend doing, so while you're getting it all balanced, it wouldn't be much more to get it wedged

If your looking to use the car everyday, I would seriously recommend not having the crank wedged if your gonna have yourself an ultralight flywheel and backplate. I've gota wedged crank in my 1380 and as good as it is at picking up, its a right cow to try and pull away with from a standing start.

I have to give it lots of rev's to try and pull away and sometimes even slip the clutch otherwise the rev's just die and it splutter's, but as Prawn says, once its moving and around 2500rpm (286 cam in mine) it fly's.

Mine's running a Mini Sport stage 4 head with std rockers and a weber 45 and made 100bhp and 90 lbs ft

I am on a slightly tight budget but will be spreading the costs over a couple of months. I was thinking of a cylinder head with ported inlet and exhaust, reworked combustion chambers, possible 11.5 CR and either 37/31 valves or 36/31 of course with twin hs4's.
I am undecided whether to get the crank wedged or not, it would be an idea to get the work done while i'm balancing it but as some of you say its not such a good idea. I will definatley be going for a reasonably lightened flywheel and backplate but not an over the top one.
Prawn your engine sounds like a beast developing 115BHP, is that at the flywheel? It would be great for me to achieve a figure like this as i am intending on at least keeping up with my mates Saxo VTR and brothers 1.4 Rover metro GTI.

How do you guys with high lift cams say 286 upwards run your cars in when completing fresh rebuilds if they don't perford that well under 3000rpm. I know there are many ways people run their engines in, but a couple of pointers would be much appreciated.

Evan.

I just drove mine gentley for the first couple of hundred miles, gear changes at 2.5k-3k. Always let the car warm up properlly before giving it some stick once run in.
I try and let my engine warm up a little before I drive off in it aswell now its run in.

Thats what i was thinking so will give that a go. I have new cam followers and have heard that you have to run the camshaft in for i think 10-20 minutes at 2000rpm before driving? I have also heard that it's best to vary the revs so sometimes give it some in say 2nd and 3rd but keep the revs relatively low in 4th.

Right, i said about checking the conrods and crank end float etc and have some pictures. The conrods and end caps are correct and numbered apart from being numbered 1-4 from the clutch end. I have added pictures of the feeler gauges positioned in where i think the end float and clearances should be, the feeler was a 3 thou one and fitted very snug in both the centre main strap and conrod. The conrods have a fair amount of side to side movemen on the crank. There is also what look to be bronze in colour some sort of shim either side of the centre main strap, is this the shims that affect end float?

the shims are called thrust washers and they controll end float

I'm guessing it's because they are standard 73.5mm for a 1380 but are definatley 1380cc pistons Powermax i think.

i think you'll find the standard reffers to compresion ratio.
