A few little updates to show what’s been going on; not as much as I’d hoped as the summer rain has meant I’ve been garage bound!!!
The major step was last weekend when I finally managed to get the alignment done; this was long overdue, but I finally managed to sort a day that I could have off, the garage could fit me in and the trailer and van were free to use… not an easy task!
Once this was done I could trial the rear arches as I knew the wheels were in the right place; as it happens they were ok where they were, typical! I don’t have pictures but the side skirts have been extended by about 20mm to accommodate the slightly longer wheel base of the z-car and 2-1/2 of the 4 arches have also been fitted; I hope to finish these off completely this week.
Now for some pictures, everyone loves pictures
The rear of the shell was loose to say the least and needed some extra support to stop it bouncing around all over the place. A metre of 10mm bar, some good old weld and a butane torch later the following emerged from the depths of the garage:-
Quite pleased with how they turned out and I don’t really want to cover them up as I think they look awesome lol. They also add a serious amount of strength to the back; it’s now pretty solid so a good mod to have done.
The next section to finish was the charge cooler radiator mount, I’ve had the brackets designed for a few weeks now, but as I was sizing up a few other parts I put a hold to their manufacture…… Well the other parts have been designed and my “Lasor” guy didn’t let me down and 2 days later I collected the bracket (and a few other bits).
A couple of bollhoffs in some existing holes and it was fitted; still needs de-burring and painting but its fitted and holds the rad solidly – another bracket (less interesting) below the cooler also holds it in place.
I also got these at the same time:-
These are to hold my coolant lines and fuel hoses below the car.
The final update is a new wiper motor, the existing location was potentially going to interfere with something else I have going on under the bonnet and have heard the standard set-up is…. Not exactly great at the best of times! A quick looky on eBay and £14 later a metro mechanism is on its way.
It was 90mm too long (I think) but after a quick chop and weld job the beasty was in; the welding was the easy part though, the bulkhead needed some gentle persuasion to allow clearance, but it’s in and hopefully it will work lol
Well that’s all for now, hope it was of interest to some and tune in again soon….
