You will need to make a SORN every year until you have taken it to an ATF, or told DVLA that you longer have it.

its not difficult to understand ...just tell them you are no longer responsable for it

Sounds simple doesn't it. I may give them a ring without handing over my details and ask them exactly what "you longer have it" means.

I broke my Mini up last December. The shell was cut up and put into the metal recycling bin at the local tip.
I now intend to recycle all the parts to other Mini owners. I think this is a much greener way of doing things than crushing the whole car at a government end of life centre, (or whatever its called).

Its sad but circumstances mean that not all Mini restorations can reach a happy ending. Mine was just too many cars and not enough space/money.

On the bright side I've now got a whole car minus the shell from a 1991 Mini Cooper that had only done 43K and owned by me for the last 10 years to pass on.

Looks like I'll be SORNing it forever....

Keep SORNing it.....................one day in the future you might want to rebuild it using a Heritage bodyshell, in 20 years time any V5 for legally building a '91 Cooper could be much sought after and the final value will probably make it viable to do. :)

That did cross my mind....
The V5/ VIN plate will probably be worth a few bob. You see, the DVLA have already got me thinking like a criminal. LOL

this is just another example of EU interferance and as usual our govt is the first to suck up to it, why cant we be more like countries like France where if they don't like the idea they tell brussels to go spin on it - they do have their faults but you gotta admire them for this indipendence of mind, even better in Greece where they completely ignore it.

" told DVLA that you longer have it "

Dose that mean that you have passed it on to another owner??

Think I've found a loop hole...

You have an old car which needs to be disposed of....

Take what you want off it as part of your "restoration"... but due to an accident while welding the rest went up in flames....take what remains to the ATF.... and request a CoD.... like to see them worm their way out of that one...

great rules, so recycling parts is gonna become more difficult, having to sorn a vehicle that does not exsist, well could be funny getting caught speeding in such a vehicle, and what about vehicles that have not been transfered correctly in the past can you reclaim ownership?

Panic over boys and girls.....

I've done a bit of reading and have found a GENUINE LOOP HOLE....

Fortunately I've been reading about waste management recently which has directed me to this through the Environment Agency website...

Vintage vehicles do not fall within the scope of the legislation. Vintage vehicles include historic vehicles or vehicles of value to collectors or intended for museums, kept in a proper and environmentally sound manner, either ready for use or stripped into parts.

This can be found here....

Good call.
So the question now is, does a "classic" ie pre 2000 Mini count as a vintage vehicle?

I imagine "historic" will apply to those with a taxation class of historic, ie pre 1973?

In my opinion this will just lead to more people hording log books, therefore meaning thefts and ringing will go up as availability of logbooks increases..

I'd rather be honest and above board about it but lets face it, they are not making it easy....

Well your welcome to the rusty heap on my drive, come and get it. Some minis are just not worth saving, the scrap yard is where they belong especially the later ones like my MPI heap
