Basically you can not self declare you have scrapped the car anymore like you could do in the past. If you don't take the 'remains of the vehicle' to a licensed Scrap place (ATF)and get it officially 'scrapped' the only alternative is to be burdened with having to declare sorn every year for eternity!! You can tell them that you have sold it to someone but that has implcations if you havent signed over the V5. Sorn rules apply and fines of £80 are payable ekkk! See para below from Gov website
'If you have broken up the vehicle yourself, you must either continue to tax it or tell the DVLA that you are keeping it off the public road. You can do this by making a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification). You will need to make a SORN every year until you have taken it to an ATF, or told DVLA that you longer have it.'

Thank goodness after stripping the good bits I chopped my rusty shell up last year because the local scrappy wasnt interested at the time to collect unless he charged me!
