on your actual wing mirror underneith there will be a triangle shape cap you just need to pop this of with a flat screwdriver and underneith there is 2 machine screws which hold the mirror on. hope this helps. you do not have to remove the door card

On the front of the mirror mounting thing (technical term) is a screw undo this screw. The main part of the mirror should then just come off exposing the screws underneath to detach it from the door.

When i did it the 1st screw needed plenty of WD40 before it moved anywhere.

Once you have got it off its pretty obvious how to get the new ones on as it is the reverse.

Do be careful as those screws are often heavily corroded because the bottom of the mirror mounting is a bit of a water trap. You will find that the screws are probably corroded in place and that the threaded insert in the door skin will just come loose and spin if you apply much pressure with a screw driver. (which will then cause you a big headache to try and rectify) Do as "chippy" recommended and spray both screws with wd40, I would then leave them a couple of days before gently trying to undo them.

As you can tell from the above, there is more than one type of standard wing mirror. They are attached in a few different ways. What age is the car? It saves a lot of time and hassle if you give this kind of information when you ask a question.

(which will then cause you a big headache to try and rectify)

Takes less than a minute if you have the right tools though! A Rivnut setter is a very useful tool to have.

Hiya, thanks for your replies, Its a 1986 mini but we had the bullet mirrors put on when we had it re-sprayed! we then realised these mirrors were completely useless so weve gone back to the classic mirrors!

thanks again I'll give it a go!

xx
