haya guys im new so sorry if this is in the wrong section im looking for ideas and insperation i get 2 mini mags a month mini world and mini mag but i cant seem to find a path that clicks ! i would like my 1984 min ito be a bit diffrent and i love retro so im thinking maybe speedwell parts and styling ?? i dont rel know any thing about them tho can any one enlighten me ? i dont want to go down the cooper route like everyone else maybe some retro street sleeper if any one has any pics of there alternitive to cooper minis please post a pic or two love to see any downton ones to ? cheers and sorry about my grammer i suck :S

Have a look in the mini photo album at the top of minichat. Thats full of photos of everybodys minis on here.

You don't need expensive downton or speedwell parts to get a retro look.

Look into things like mk1/2 rear lights, mk1 grills and surrounds and bumpers with over riders fitted.

why not look away from minis for your inspiration and look at other car scenes

ah cool ill check it out ill try and get some pics up soon to do you know of any other 70s 80s tuning companies that dabbled in minis im 22 and new to the mini scene so not somthing i would know much about lol but getting there! id rele aprecate it if some one could look at my other tuning and setting up post loads of veiws but no replys

that looks rele nice will a early grill like that bolt right on a mk3 shell ? id like some mk1 rear lights i need to find some where tidy to hide the ugly fog and reverse light tho any ideas love how you have done yours where thay tricky i thought about hiding them underneeth but im unsure about the mot details on this? also how tricky is a rev counter to fit to a mini where does it get its feed from ? i thin kmy next step is a retro interior from optimize automotive and some classic bucket seats i got some goodies of ebay loads of speedwell bits and bobs dont know if ill use them yet ill get some more pics up soon also on the hunt for some 998 tuning parts if any one has any thing cheers sorry about all the questions lol

Speedwell parts are very rare and expensive, to make your mini look like it has had a speedwell conversion you'd need one of their alloy heads with twin carbs and inlet manifold, perhaps a chrome rocker cover with badges, a bonnet/boot badge for the external show, inside they had wooden dashboards, full set of guages and a plastic exension pedal...

there are plenty of copy parts on ebay, depends if you want to be authentic or not?

theres always speedwell wheels, if you can find a set...

Is it illegal to have them plates on the road as your car is a 1990 model ?

I thought them plates could only be fitted to pre 1st Jan 1973 cars though ?

wow there are a lot of gauges ! and thanks for the speedwell pics its somthing im going to have to look in to more i have all the small speed well bits that are on ebay probebly all copies i have the gear stick a plated rockercover with plaque and a bonnet badge and some random speed well decals and cigerette lighter and some toggle switches like i say im not sure ifim going to use them yet . ill keep you guys posted im also open to ideas as the project hasent rele taken a direction yet :S as for the questions about the plates i rele like the black plates are thay legal for newer reg ? mines 84 also where does the law stand with the squere bonnet sticker plate ? cheers

Hit the nail on the head in my opinion!

There are so many mk1 lookalikes out there that the look is getting stale. Don't get me wrong, it's nice but I'd love to see something new and refreshing on the scene.
Something daring that, even if others don't like it, the creator can step back and say "damn, I did a good job there".
