Hi, I have recently bought an austin mini chelsea 1986.

Unfortunately it does not have rear seat belts.

My question is... How much will it cost to put rear seat belts in (professionally) and what seat belts would be easiest and cheapest to fit whilst still remaining legal?

Thank you in anticipation...

My 1984 has all the welded nuts in place to put belts in the back, just no belts or plug in bits! Can't imagine this would be a big or complicated DIY job, I'd just do it just before the MOT, then get it tested so you know they're safe!

You can probably pick the bits up from Ebay!

Hi,

The bolt holes should already be in place - they were on my 1986 Mayfair.

You can buy seat belts at any good supplier. I got mine from Mini Sport but I'm sure that Mini Spares also have them. They cost around £30 each + P&P. Mine were Securon SEC254 ones that came with all the fittings.

You could go down the scrapyard/Ebay route (as Carlos suggests) but just be careful because some seatbelts need 4 anchor points and minis only have 3 in the rear!

It's an easy DIY job - just follow the instructions - I did! If you really need someone to do it for you any half-decent mechanic should be able to fix them in less than an hour.

Here's a picture of them fitted:

Hi Amos426,

I see you're in Notts. If you're close enough to me I am more than happy to help you fit them for free. I can come to you or you can bring your car to me if you prefer - I have the necessary tools .

I live and work around Bingham (nr Nottingham). I'm also in Pleasley (nr Mansfield) on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.

PM me if you'd like some assistance.

Paul

Thank you very much...

I have a family mechanic who should be able to help me out, thank you anyway!

Thanks again for the help.
