Yeah i've got some flap wheels aswell. They do a good job of getting the metal bare, whereas the wire brushes spread underseal around abit and you can end up with a thin layer of underseal spread on everything.

Think i'll go and buy one of the clarke angel grinders - I've not got a big budget at the moment and up until I started rubbing down the underside of my car, my grinder does get that much use.

Unfortunately, grinders do seem to die quite quickly nowadays :)

I've got a Bosch one that has lasted 10 odd years now, with no sign of imminent failure- but I think it's sort of luck of the draw!!

Just been out and bought the clarke one. Seems pretty good, only thing I dont like is the on/off switch on the top. My old one had a trigger underneath...

I've been using a clarke one for nearly 2 years now, quality grinder!

Those wire knot wheels are great too, just take caution and if the worst happens and it catches on something and you lose your grip, just make sure you have somewhere to go to get away from it and kill the power. It's only happened to me once, but it's scary!

B&Q do angle grinders and they are cheap and cheerful, iv'e killed one but the other 2 are spot on. The last one cost me £12 (methinks they messed up)

I used to use Black and Decker all the time but i had a run of bad ones then a Bosch which i killed very quickly so its cheap and cheerful from now on. If they last great if not dispose of and get another.

I would suggest sticking with the twisted wire cups for underseal and then use white spirit to get rid of the remainder. Stonechip will need a bit more work but would also recommend a face mask as its nasty stuff. Flap discs will block up which is a waste, they are very good for grinding down without leaving score marks. I use P80 and P120 grit and do leave a nice finish.

Turns out in the end that it was the cheap wire brush tool I was using. It'd crushed down on one side and gone out of balance. So this grinder was a waste of money really...

The budget 4 1/2" grinder screwfix sell have been ok for me, in fact the brushes on the motors wear out before anything else.

I think you get what you pay with, with grinders reall, iv have cheap ones before, they dont ever last more than 6 months, then i brought s a Makita and its been faultless for about 4 years now, and i have used it alot...

Iv recently got one of the knotted wire wheels and iv been using it on my current project, i must say im very impressed with it, it does still shoot bits of wire at you that go in surprisingly deep, but they do the job great, just dont keep it in one place on big planels it it heats the metal up quick and distortes it....

I can also say good things about the cheap ones from B&Q, my first one died after 6 months but my second one is still going strong after a year and a half. It's awesome not to have to change the disk as often.

I also ended up with two because of some misbalanced disk's although mine was a batch of grinding disks.

Another vote for having 2 (or more) grinders - just keep the receipt if you get a B&Q or similar one - big box shifters are usually pretty good at swapping them out if they break. I'm pretty sure the sub £25 one I got has a 2yr guarantee with it as well!
