back on topic, is it me or is it just a minority of bini owners who are actually alright about the classic?
most of them just seem to think the new one is somehow better and doesnt owe anything to the origional, yet they are far to happy to steal the fact thats its 50 years old and to make a load of money out of it?

As most know over the years, I have a foot in both Mini & MINI camps and often try to post the more interesting news on what is happening in the MINI world on TMF.
I am quite happy to stop (as suggested by someone in the other MINI/Mini thread) if most would prefer to have no knowledge of anything outside the classic Mini world?
I always put the MINI content clearly in my topic titles so why not just skip over if you don't like reading something in particular which offends or annoys you personally?
I suppose as is often commented about the Mini magazines, after a few years of reading the posts on the Mini forums many can become a bit stale and repetitive asking the same very basic questions over and over when a quick search would often give the answer, but we all have to start somewhere. The occasional post on something completely new and outside your experience is not a bad thing for many, it is not healthy for any scene to become too insular and not welcome any new blood..........
I think despite what some say, the classic Mini scene WILL decline amongst the next generation, youngsters born now will see virtually no classic Mini's in everyday use and will have no access to the cheap 'starter car' Minis when they reach driving age. There sole introduction to the Mini scene will be via whatever New MINI's are on the road in everyday use or that are cheap to buy at the time. Some will find there way to Mini/MINI shows in the future and maybe be introduced to the classic there as a result as happens now in the USA. This is how new blood will arrive in future as it does in the wider VW scene for example already. The alternative is the rather dull, aging owner profile problems that many other long out of production cars suffer with in the classic car world. Read the Morris Minor club magazine or visit one of their shows and look at the average age of owners and hear how they desperately want to recruit a younger membership to carry on their enthusiasm. Even the MCR (my own choice of Mini club for the past 25 years) has a problem with few younger members coming forward to organise and join commitees to run the club as the owners age and few youngsters can afford a valuble Mini Cooper as a second or hobby car................(no one in their right mind would use a Mk1 S or similar as a daily driver before anyone says they should be driven everyday and less so in the future for all classic Minis as values and rarity increases).

I have to say this is exactly how i feel, the name is the only resemblancebut thats not the argument, tell me, apart from the name, what the MINI and Mini share, which other "small" cars dont already share with the Mini!

No there are in fact a large amount of MINI owners would like the classic. I myself had a classic but had to get rid due to ever incresing bill to keep it on the road. because of my job I needed a car so I had the new mini so I could stay with the mini family.ollies hugs are great
, gregs are creepy.

This has also gone the other way with alot of new mini owners wanting a classic mini to do up or as a little weekend fun car and then show them off, but said to say as with all makes of car you will get the ones who think that they are above you. I have seen it at shows when a new mini owner slags off another new mini and then goes off to look down at people for owning a classic. So in a nut shell we aren't all that bad remember not every one us the same. If I was traveling down the motorway and saw a classic in trouble I would stop and see if they were ok and needed help, but many wouldn't as to them it's just another car and dont care about or the history if both.

Its a lot of people, but that is still a minority group im affaid, the number of new mini's on the roads compared to the number of new mini's activly attending shows is like comparing a grain of sand to a gym ball.

as you have said in that, having a classic mini is a lot more demanding than owning a BINI, as it needs TLC to keep it on the road! and for that i think people deserve a bit of respect! and unfortunatly some BINI owners dont get that, and the few that go round looking down their noses at you because you have a car that isnt in manufacturers warranty and isnt worth a 5 figure amount have given the BINI community a bad name with some classic mini circles!
The thing is though, my problem isnt with the car, it wasnt really with the owners untill i heard storys about them accusing us, as in classic owners, stealing of show stands and stuff like that, it is with BMW and their buisiness manner, going against their ethos and manufacturing and selling a FWD car! just to make more money! which just shows that it is all about the money! the companies they put out of business, the lack of understanding about the community around "their" products history! if they had worked with the community from the start then maybe it would be different, but their attitude is where my problem lies! all of the effort they are now putting in to the community is a bit late, and wont make up for the upset in the classic community!

Yes French engines built at hams hall Birmingham. They are a joint venture just like the Honda/rover days. Most car companies now share with each other as it's cheaper is the fiat 500 uses the same foot pan as the vauxhall corsa and the ford ka. The engines are a joint venture between BMW/Peugot/citreon, with minis built in Birmingham and the French built in france.I have to say this is exactly how i feel, the name is the only resemblancebut thats not the argument, tell me, apart from the name, what the MINI and Mini share, which other "small" cars dont already share with the Mini!
