Let me ask this...if BMW had bought KIA after ROVER and decided to market the Picanto with the mini badge on it, would you be trying to persuade us that it was worthy of the name? Those that want to "show" their MINI, at classic shows, are really just trying to cash in on the heritage of the real thing. The number of MINI enthusiasts as a percentage of MINI owners is no where near the same as enthusiasts owning classic minis.

If there was a vote between all of the people at stanford hall today to say yes or no to the MINI being included:
How would it go....................I think I know what the answer would be................I am happy to stay away from BINI rallies with my classic.

I wonder if the MINI owners who want to jump on the mini band wagon would dare leave it to democracy??

Make a poll on here then.

HEY!its moved on to Vdubs, what else do you want?I admit to being in at the start of this, then I found myself in the middle of a riot.Really how many times to i have to say this , the majority of our members own a classic mini , so dont be suprised at all the negative comments toward BMW , to be honest the conversation is not really moved forward , despite me opening the topic to allow for debate , the term chasing your tail comes to mind , unless the conversation is moved forward i will have no choice but to close this topic
Lets call it a day folks, you never know,we might have more in common than you think.I hear a Russian want's to buy BMW.![]()
RIP TVR. don't even start me on that story.
Why close down a thread which has had over 200 replies and over 4000 views since September 7th but agree we are going round in circles and perhaps would be better for all concerned to just agree to disagree, having some different opinions is what makes things interesting but I would not be on TMF if I was not a also classic Mini fan for over 30 years so we still have that in common! I will always remember many heated discussions with the late Taffy on this topic but we always respected each others opinions and actually got on really well off the forums exchanging classic Mini info and old videos........he even sent me some New MINI clips off Sky which I had missed, so there is perhaps still some hope for Mini/MINI United amongst some enthusiasts in the future!

A poll on here is clearly likely to be biased but any big show organiser knows that attracting, MINI owners will keep the big shows financially viable in the future, ie, BMC shows, MCR Beaulieu, MITP santa Pod and MOC Stanford.............as do the Mini magazine publishers unless they are happy to contract rather than expand in future years. The changes at Miniworld are probably the first indication that things must inevitably change and adjust to new circumstances without necessarily harming the classic scene.

I'm not sure it would be that biased. I think there will be a big group of people like me who don't care either way if MINIs are at shows or not, followed by those who think it should just be minis and finally those who think MINIs have to be there. What annoys me more at shows is transit vans in the mini only parking. If rover had still been around and made the new MINI the exact same in looks and performance as BMW the same people who hate them now would still hate them. There are new and old minis I think are horrible and new and old that I really like. The guy who turned his MINI into a pickup gets abuse off both sides. That's just life
Sorry but I TOTALLY disagree.............I love the MINI but hate BMW........unfortunatly MINI is a BMW so I wont be having one.
Were the same car be being build at Longbridge.......by Rover........there would definatly be at least one on my drive.

If membership drops in the club and cash is not coming in then more would have to face the facts and let them in, even if you dont like it youll have to face it some day.

but i can't see a reason why a general mini show would, are then any examples you have where this has happened?

What a lot of people are not getting that banning New mini from shows would be totally mad, it brings in a lot of money for them and with the cost of running events like today would of cost a fortune. Also a lot of clubs would not be permitted from attending as they have a mix of both cars which is totally unfair. More and more clubs are now letting them in as classic members gets smaller from getting rid of there classics or just not renewing. I know of a number of clubs now having to do this. For example a classic ONLY club here in the west midlands would turn there nose up at them suddenly had one on the front of there display "Hello mr pot the kettles on the phone"

Money money money..............principles principles principles..............I was un impressed by the 'big show' today. Lots of lovely classics but no context. I prefered it in the old days when all the like cars were put in the same areas.
Then there would be a place for the MINI because they could be in there own area and not diluteing the classic areas.
I know I'm a die hard, but I loved Rover.

Interestingly the first New MINI's (reports vary between 15-100 cars) were actually built by Rover workers at Longbridge as the entire MINI production line for jigging, framing, computer process control. etc, had already been installed and tested there when the decision came to move the MINI back down to the Rover Cowley, Oxford plant and the Rover 75 up to Longbridge. Over 9 months in 2000 to early 2001 the entire production line facilities for both cars were dismantled and swapped 70 miles in opposite directions between both plants at a cost of millions and delaying the MINI going on sale in the UK until July 2001.
So who knows some of those rare early Y Reg MINI's with very early chassis numbers built at Longbridge could be highly sought after by future MINI enthusiasts!!

yeah, have a MINI and Mini section, a good distance apart, and the MINI section can have its own security just to make sure no rust monkeys nick their nice shiney parts!
