I bought my Mini a while ago and it came with two brilliant Hella comet 500 spot lamps without wiring.

Question one: I think this wiring kit should work (opinion?)

Wiring kit

Question two: I want these wired straight to my full beams (eradicating the need for the additional switch included), how exactly do i do this. There is a wiring diagram on the link.

Cheers!

Essentially, that kit will work.

But cut their switch off, and wire it into the switch on the stalk.
Thats going to be the best way to do it.

One of the three wires into that switch will be for the led, just fold it back on its self and tape it up as it wont be needed.

that looks like a fog light kit you have spot lights

just buy your self a bit of wire and a relay + inline fuse

I thought driving lamps/fogs/spots had to be wired so that they were independently switched with a warning lamp and should only work with the headlights on in the UK.

Factory fitted ones don't have a seperate warning light so i can't see why after market ones should.

Is there a difference in wiring for fog lamps compared to spots?

there's nothing in the road lighting regs, or the MOT regs that say they HAVE to be switched independently from the main beam, in fact they are treated as main beam lights.

If they are connected to the dip beam circuit, then they have to have a switch, with a warning light, and not necessarily the same as the main beam stalk or the same as the main beam warning light.

however, it does make sense to fit a switch, even if they are connected only to the main beam, if nothing else for convenience.

I used a kit similar to this to wire my spot/driving lamps. I copied the standard wiring as found on 1990 onwards Coopers to connect the lights up. This means the lights a wired into the high beam circuit and only function on high beam, there is no need for a seperate switch or warning light. When fitting ensure the fuses and relay are suitable for the wattage of the bulbs in the lamp.
